Saw a Farmall H that was is decent shape, had rusty rims and the tires were fair, but weather checked some. They couldn't get it to run, said the engine wouldn't turn over, didn't know what was wrong with it maybe the starter had locked up or it had become seized, didn't know for sure other than it did run when it was parked and the auctioneer didn't say how long ago that was. Tractor was grease covered and still had it's original work clothes on. Appeared to be low houred due to tight steering and no slop in gearshift, it did come with cultivators, but the hydrolic cylinders had been sold off seperate as odds and ends because the auctioneer didn't know they went to it. The cultivators were in a shed and half buried in the dirt and would have to wait until spring to be able to get them out. Tractor wan't perfect and needed some TLC brought $1,600!.
white 6085 4wd 2,500hrs with 4 post ROPS sold for either $13,000 or $13,500, local Agco dealer says it was only worth about $12,000.

Wooden rack hay wagons for $1,200 and $1,000 each.

1 Steel haywagon that looked like a brand new one brought $2,800.

1983 or 1985 Chevy s10 pickup 2wd and all beat up, 2 flat tires, and didn't run sold for $375.

1 almost brand new steel Gehl chopper wagon that unloads in the front, and I also think it dumped too brought $7,200.

JD 7200 4 row corn planter that looked almost new brought something to the tune of $5,000

An older 5'x10' off road dump cart brought $2,200, and still had half a load of manure in it.

a new holland 135 manure spreader brought $1,600

an old lightweight 10' Massey Fergueson set of transport harrows that looked like they might be good, but were froze in the ground and the auctioner announced it would have to be left until spring along with several sets of plows to avoid damage, Those brought $800.

An Oliver 4 14" bottom set of plows brought $400

IH set of 4 14" bottoms that I can't remember the model of, but 720 rings a bell, those sold for $475.

I froze my butt off for nothing.

I was at an auction on Tuesday that was for a former owner of an IH dealer in Elbert County Colorado. They had numerous belt pulleys, battery boxes, PTO covers, manuals, and tool boxes. Just the kind of stuff I like to buy and resell on ebay. I out bid a younger gentleman on a light bar tool box, and after that I was not able to win a single bid. Every time I bid, he would bid. I ended up running up some bids just to see how high he would go and he just kept on topping me. I found out later that he was a tractor collector and did not like the fact I was selling parts on ebay.

Hhmm..., so whats he going to do with them, pack rat them away?. Why buy it if you can't use it (or in your case, resell them). I can understand a whole complete tractor thats in nice shape being bought to keep it from the choppers, but just parts?? theres no sense in that and what difference does that make to him, chances are if he ever needs a part he will check ebay. I imagine he was broke by the end of the day and probably spent the night in the dog house. I wonder how often things are bought just to get them away from someone else, some people see auctions as a competition.

Jonboy, I think you hit the nail on the head, he was a pack rat. I like to see parts and tractors put to use. Those parts will never see the light of day. He had put the tool box together with a JD PTO cover. After I had won the bid, I asked him if he wanted the PTO cover (he was wearing a JD hat and I was wearing my IHC hat). He said no because he did not have a tractor to put it on! He asked me what I was going to do with the tool box. I told him I was going to sell it on ebay, and that set him off. Later on in the sale, a guy asked me what was going on between us because he saw some of the bidding action.

Unbelievable what people do. Some day his survivors will probably look at that big mess he will have aquired, hire big dumpsters and it'll probably all go for junk because they'll have no idea what those parts fit or what they're worth.

Just pray that when the widow sells off YOUR stuff the same people come. Never know about auctions. I go to five and then buy something at the sixth. Don't feel like I have "won" at an auction unless the price is good.

Usually the folks with big money, the wanna be play farmers come on auctions held on weekends, there were a few today I noticed had new pickups and bought a bunch of stuff, Seemed there were a few people that were there to buy and were going to buy no matter what. I've gone to other auctions this past summer where the stuff was practically given away for pennies on the dollar of what it was worth. Auctions sure are weird, no way to tell how the same is going to go until it's over. However I have noticed that midwinter, and early springtime sales, the stuff always goes high, cabin fever I guess.

Exactly. Sure hurts to go home without something you really could have used but didn't want to pay THAT price for though!

Yep, and this farm was right on a lake and the crowd got blasted with high winds and freezing temps. Boots, heavy socks, insulated coveralls, outer jacket over that, Heavy gloves, and ski mask weather :'D
