Someof the issues discaussed in the recent topic on changing the forum might be resolved this way. In trying to read responses to my posts I used to scroll down for pages. Found a much easier way. Do a "search" on your signature. Your posts and replies come right up chronologically. So IF you don't have a unique signature, get one and use this as your search engine. BTW hypens mean to "not" look for what is behind the hyphen, so if you are using one just enter "gordo sd" not gordo-sd. Note my new signature. And also, I don't think many of us here are trying to hide. Try to click the "no" button on the "Hide" feature, so we can get back to you individually if it is appropriate.

You bring up a point. I would like to see the email default to "send email" rather than "no email" since I forget to check it off.
Other than that I think its fine. But then that's my opinion

Going to the new forum style would take care of this kind of problem because a hot topic would stay on top. I am all for switching this thread style is as old as our tractors we discus.

Sensible questions on top would be ok. Problem is most of the so-called hot topics are those such as the vasectomy question currently on Tool Talk, or other off topic questions that don't have much to do with tractors. Probably should put a 2-day limit or so on them--but this discussion is immaterial, because it isn't going to happen. Hugh is correct that all questions should be answered. But, it is usually the off topic, or meaningless chatter type stuff that pushes them off the page. (Which I am doing now).

Which is why there is typically a general discussions page on those forums. To get the chitter chatter done elsewhere.

JBlavl: Don't be so ridiculous, computers aren't half the age of most of these tractors. Besides this aint no popularity contest. It's about giving every single thread an answer, no matter how long until the person with the answer comes along.

CNKS. I did a searc just now and got 30 hits back to Jan. I am using the search box at top of site page, not the search box for message lists/topics. Also I am doing it from a "read message" page, not the page that lists all the topics and responses. I found 16,025 hits for "CNKS" Busy ,Busy boy.

I get 278 hits for you using the search function in the Farmall forum, they start at March 6 or 7, nothing newer. For CNKS, the latest date in the main search box is last June, the Farmall search box, March 7 -- so you are getting today's or yesterdays posts?

It appears to me that posts earlier than about page 9 don't show, at least not for me. Thus the ones that come up on the search function are archived posts. If you are getting current ones, I would like to know how to do it.

Gordo: Another item I should point out, I have exposed my e mail on just about every post I've made at YT in the past 5 years. Never really get any spam, scam, etc. worth mentioning. Oh I hear tell of old Akmed and his buddies once a month, nothing serious.

One thing I do get is a lot of e mail from legetimate tractor owners with problems, looking for answers. In all cases I advise them to get involved in discussions at YT, and many have. Just seems like they need that little push, encouraging them to type something on public forum, for the first time. I could name you several regulars here at YT, started off just that way. Seems as though they get just a bit nervous typing something for the world to see.

I suspect the guys that think exposing their e mail may cause them grief down the road, are actually getting that grief from visiting other sites. Those scammers not to interested in a bunch of tight fisted old tractor nuts. Probably the hardest group in the world to get extra money out of. That is not to say there are not those amoung us that part with cash easily. As a group I don't think we are very easy picking.

I agree with Hugh on the lack of spam e-mail. I have been uncovering mine since I got started on this board. I could probably trace my spam back to one of the companies that I have bought something from here on the internet. The company that I work for blocks the pictures in e-mails that are spam until you click on the spot where the picture is supposed to go in that e-mail. I did that the other morning and within about a minute I got another e-mail from this same company. Those are the kind of things that make it frustrating for the majority of us.

Most of the spammers have it setup so that if you open just one of the e-mails then it sends something back to them letting them know that yours is a valid e-mail address and "presto" you are on the list for all of the spammers. If I don't recognize the sender or if the subject is blank or words are mispelled then I immediately delete them. So I guess as a warning if you are e-mailing in response to a posting I would suggest putting some reference in the Subject pertaining to the post, otherwise I will probably delete the e-mail without reading it.

Randy: You are very right, I never open an e mail from individuals or companies I don't recognize. It's just automatic delete button.

There is one exception, question about old tractors or old iron. If their reference is a simple but good description, I open it. Doesn't matter what the name is. Not hard to pick out the true tractor owners. I expect I have deleted a few genuine old iron questions over the years. Just not the right reference to satisfy me.

Notice to others, if you are one of these guys, been reading YT discussion for sometime, just never had the courage to participate. Send me an e mail, chose your reference wisely. After a few e mails I guarentee, I will have you taking part in discussions at YT. We've got to make Kim and her little discussion machine more popular than J Leno.

Gordo: Will give you another suggestion, above where it says HIDE, yes hides your e mail, no exposes it.

Down below the little box where it says E mail notification, if you check that box, YT will notify you by e mail everytime someone responds to your post. My thoughts are if you could make that function dual and either - or, in other words one box for notifying you on responce to your post and a second box if you want notification should anyone respond to the thread in question. I think that could be a big help to anyone wanting to monitor a thread. I still agree with only giving it to participants. Now there is one way to get more folks involved.

I really don't think Cowman or Michael need Viagra 24/7. Maybe their bulls do, but I rather doubt it.

Gordo, I tried what you said for both my name and yours and did not get anything later than March 7 -- so is there some trick to it? As to the email, I prefer mine private, if anyone wants me offline, all they have to do is ask. However, unless it is a private conversation, IMO most conversations should be for the benefit of all, unless it is BS, or some private deal someone is making, such as NE Cowman or justin, etc selling parts or something. I changed providers a couple of months ago, and get 0 spam. Want to keep it that way as long as possible (good luck).

good advice gordo, I always unhide my email and get very little spam. probably a half dozen a day for stuff like viagra and cheap meds. My ISP has filter that gets most of the rest.

Jeez Cowman, don't you need Viagra everyday 24/7?Whats doing in Nebraska? Been snowing and storming here for two days, not good driving and darn cold. I been meaning to ask you about Angus stock. I had a bull brought last July, young, good features and was generally pleased with him till the cows kept coming into estrogen. He seemed to give up easily if a cow moved on him and he didn't persue vigorously if you know what I mean. Neighbour called him a "LAZY" bull..had to get rid of him and got another Angus bull, he works but his features aren't as good in my estimation..seems to have small ears, short tail but otherwise not a bad looking bull..will know when the calves start coming. I am sure my originall bull did manage to breed some of the cows but I couldn't wait especially the third time around..is there Viagra for bulls?....Mike in Exeter Ontario

Hehehehehe. Hey Michael, down here in the lower 48 we call them critters with the short ears and tails pigs. And you're right, they won't breed them big old long legged snow-walking cows very well. :-) Later, Harley
