I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS OK TO RUN A CHAMPION D23 IN MY FARMALL 560? I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING A D21 WHICH IS WHAT THE BOOK CALLS FOR BUT I"M FOULING PLUGS AND THE TRACTOR RUNS ROUGH. I"VE TALKED TO A FEW INTERNATIONAL DEALERS AROUND AND THEY DID NOT RECOMMEND THE D23 SAYING THE D21 WAS AS HOT AS YOU SHOULD GO. ANY THOUGHTS ARE APPRICIATED!

What do you use your 560 for? If you are doing only idling and light work you might get by with the D23 plugs, but…you would be only masking the reason the plugs are fouling out.

Does your engine use oil, if so how much? If it uses too much oil, even the hottest plugs will not help much if any. Running an ethanol blended fuel may help it run cleaner, but again, won’t help a lot. Downside to switching to ethanol is that it has a tendency to loosen up crud in the fuel tank and lines which can plug filters etc. but once the crud is gone, the problems are too.

If it doesn’t use oil, then they may be fouling because of too much fuel (or not enough air) getting into the cylinder. Check intake to make sure that it doesn’t have a restriction in it, or the carburetor may need work or float level adjustments.

Good spark is important also, should have a bright blue spark that will jump ½ inch gap.

I've never been really clear on sparkplug choices, but I'd go with what the dealer told me. Whatever the plug you use, though, it's something else causing the fouling. Rings, valve guides, head gasket, could be any of a number of things. Somebody here can give ideas what to look for. Good luck

By the way, some people (not me) are put off by all capitals; they regard it as shouting. For some reason all lower case doesn't elicit the same ire. I guess lack of clarity is not seen to be as much a lifestyle choice as loudness is.
