International 350 or Super A?

Hello everyone, new to the forum.

I've been considering raising a little tobacco in the next year or so. My cousins have raised it for years and I've helped then for a number of years now. Although I'm rather inexperienced, I would like to raise my own crop eventually.

I was wondering if any of you tractor experts could steer me in the right direction. At the moment I can purchase either an International 350 or a Super A for a very low price. Which of these would be best suited for tobacco farming? Are either one of these even suitable at all for tobacco farming?

The Super A comes with a cultivator and the 350 has power steering and independant PTO. Now I'm not a tractor expert by no means what so ever. But if it is possible, could someone give me a brief history of each tractor and what they were/are primarily used for, i.e. gas/diesel powered, pto, 3 point, etc...

I apologize if I'm asking a whole lot, I'm just wanting to educate myself as much as possible before becoming a part-time farmer.

As others have said, the Super A is probably better for cultivation with lots of attachments available. The 350U is a more general purpose tractor, with more horsepower than the Super A. You didn't mention if the 350 you are looking at is diesel or not, but it does have that option.

I would buy both tractors since the Super A would
be ideal for cultivating and the 350 would be ideal for plowing and disking the ground. Hal

HBK, 50,000,000 Kentuckians cant all be wrong. They have raised tobacco for 65 years with the use of the Farmall A or its decendants the 100, 130, and 140. As Hugh mentioned they were made for tobacco, and there are so many dedicated implements you can use, including side dressers, and cultivators. YOu could use the 350, but you would spend more time cussing at it than using it for tobacco. By the way, I know there aint really 50,000,000 Kentuckians. Just a figure if speech. Seems like we have that many here in Michigan in the auto plants tho.

hbk: The answer is short and simple, Super was designed from the ground up for the tobacco and small vegetable crop farmer.

The 350 on the other hand was built for the livestock farmer, every thing from mowing, baling, loader, hauling hay, hauling manure, etc.

I appreciate everyone"s replies. Looks like it"s unanimous, the Super A wins! Unfortuneatly, the tractor has already been sold. But I do have a good idea of what I need now. Again, thanks for everyone"s quick response.
