The distributor that you see on eBay all the time, claim that they are for the Cub, or an H, or a 400. They all look the same to me, are there part numbers and or mechanical function interchangeable with other models of the Farmall tractor models Cub through 450?

Tanner, I mounted a mag from a lincoln welder on a 1927 Dodge Brother, because I couldn't find a distributor for it. Later on I used the distributor from a model A ford on the same car. all worked fine. Right now I have a mag from a F20 farmall on an American La France fire truck.

Hi Tanner yes most of the IH distributors are the same except for the fact that they are set up with different advances from the factory you get into them and its marked on the advance weights. And if you look in the It manual it tells what advances were used on what aplications. As far as you post below Kim the Moderator tryed that kind of forum last fall and Some of us excepted it and some didnt then it just went off after a few weeks and she said she was having some difficulties with the new and I have not seen anything from it or her actually since then. The best way that I see to use it is to post with your email and check the box below so you will know when someone posts below you even if its a week from now. The diesels distrubutor rotated the opposite direction, so I'm not sure if it would work in that application.

As far as I know IH used the same style (I think there were two different brands for a while) of distributor from the A to the 400 and they will interchange. Not sure about the Cub but it would seem odd to me if it didn't since it was built at the same time.

I could be wrong though...

So I assume a 400 LP distributor would work on my 44 model H?

I much prefer mags myself. Do you really want to try to explain timing the thing on this forum? :? ) You know sure as heck someone will want to convert to 12V, keep the mag and have impulse problems!

Ya think?

I did convert a C that I had back to a mag. I was putting it in a remote location to run a pumpjack and didn't want to fix the charging system and risk loosing a battery. Converting to a mag was the quick fix.
