My super M has the hydraulic pum in front of the distributer and the resovoir under the fuel tank. It has two cylinders on it, one on each axle, and I don't really see a need for them but I do have a need for remote hookups. Has anyone done this before?

All of my drawbar hitched equipment has it's own cylinder and I need to be able to operate them with this tractor.

Also, I'm restoring this tractor and I've never run it yet but how does that lever on the right side of the resovoir operate? Is it either gonna be up or down all the wway as it seems to me or can you just move the cylinders a little bit with it? The way it is you can pull it all the way back and latch it or let it all the wway forward and that's it. Sorry if this is such a dumb question. This is my first super M ever to work on.

IH intended for you to use the remote valve (Christmas tree) for the remote cylinders, but you don't have to. You can simply run a hose to the rear, put a quick disconnect on it and plug in a one way cylinder, or a 2 way with the down port vented. You can put collars on the cylinder to set the proper depth, so all you have to do is push the hyd lever all the way down. And you can lift it a little at a time if you want to, although that method probably works better with the remote valve. Remote valve gives 2 way hydraulics, without it you have one way. The cylinders you have now were for cultivators, or other mounted equipment. So the intention was for the main control to be for cylinders for mounted equipment, the remote valve for trailing equipment, so that you didn't have to be changing hoses around when you switched from mounted to trailing.

Your description is missing a few items to be certian how your tractor is configured.

It appears that your tractor came from the factory with a LiftAll system that was later converted to live hydralics. The problem with the liftall system is that it worked off of the main clutch like the transmission and PTO. Push in the clutch and everything stopped including the hydralics. Later IH came out with live hydralics that fitted the hydralic pump directly in front of the distribuitor and ran off of the timing gear. Many farmers added this and tapped into the liftall to use as an hyd oil tank. They then removed the liftall's connection to the transmission. My guess is that the liftall system no longer works on your tractor.

To add remotes all you need to do is purchase an open center double acting hyd control valve, some hoses and 2 quick connects that match your tips on your implements.

Just make sure you have the fluid traveling in the correct direction. The valves are clearly marked IN and OUT. If you reverse them you'll blow out the timing gear.

The cylinders are probably for an aftermarket 3point hitch or cultivator.

I also have the pump in front. My system works fine. I have a dump bucket (one way cyl.)and a aftermarket 3 Point (one way)I have to switch hoses to use one or the other. Is there another source for pressure I can use?

To add a bit to Bob's comments. If you operate a one way cylinder you can use the lift all. I would pick up an operator's manuel a it describes the use well. It can lift or lower the cylinder a small amount at a time but only a single acting cylinder. You can also use a regular hydraulic valve, open center, plumbed into system in lieu of the christmas tree valve.

DSS - To run a remote cylinder from the live pump you need a remote auxiliary 4-way valve (often referred to a “Christmas tree” valve) plumbed in the hydraulic system. The remote cylinder couplers at the rear of the tractor are then plumbed into the 4-way.

To operate a remote cylinder, the lever on the Liftall reservoir is pulled back and latched. This causes the Liftall to send pressure to the remote 4-way. The 4-way will then control the cylinder on a trailing implement.

Don't know about those cylinders on the axles. Perhaps an aftermarket 3 point, or maybe cultivator lifts??

I think the cylinders on it were for cultivators. The live hydraulics are factory on it too. No belly pump or anything and when we decoded the serial number it said it should have the pump up front. Oh one more thing. Did anything go on a bracket hanging right next to the throttle? It's got two holes in it and looks original? It's a propane tractor but just wondering.

Thanks a lot!
