I have heard of TA eliminator kits, but have never installed one myself. As for the losing live PTO, I don"t think that is correct because the power for the pto is driven by a shaft inside of a hollowed out transmission shaft. This inside shaft is driven by the constant mesh gear if memory serves me correctly. Therefore, removing the TA shouldn"t effect it. As for the money, I don"t know how much it costs. Why not just leave the TA in the setting that works instead of removing it? Or else rebuild the TA even though it isn"t necessarily cheap. It seems like a waste of money to me to spend money to remove one of the nice features of the tractor. Or is there something very seriously wrong with the TA that you can"t understand how or afford to fix?

Chadd,

I think you have it backwards.

The PTO shaft is hollow and hooks directly to the main clutch pressure plate. Tranny input shaft lives inside of the PTO shaft and hooks to the driven clutch plate.

Yeah, I think that you are right, good catch. That"s it, I am just going to have to stop giving advice without looking at the books first! I couldn"t quite remember how that worked, seeing as I haven"t worked on a tractor that used it and only saw the diagram in the service manual. Thanks for your help.

Dann,

Just curious as to why you are looking at eliminating the TA on your 460.

I dont really understand this. To install the elimenator you have to do all the work you need to do to repair the TA. Might as well just repair the TA. If it is slipping on the low side. New rollers just cost 12 bucks. Seal kit cost about $60 but you need that any way.
Maybe if the planitary set is bad might save some money but only for that.

Hi Kelly,

I agree, plus the fact that by eleminating the T/A, you've lost half the tractor.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

I just put one in a 350 farmall, it's just about the same amount of time to install as a ta but you shouldn't have to ever do it again. Your live power will still be there, that has nothing to do with your ta, it's up in the flywheel pressure plate. If I remember correctly all you really need is a gear and a carrier.

Mornin' Dan,

Boy, I'm not so sure about those eliminator kits. Seems like it would just be a heck of a lot easier to trade down to an H?

I dunno,

Allan

If"n you dont have the TA you dont have the tractor.

The TA makes the tractor.
