John, if possible post a picture or provide a very good description. Might take a while but you can also look in the Tractor Photos along the left side under Galleries on this web site. You can date it from the casting codes. The codes are found on the major castings and appear to be a month, day and a code letter for the year. Post back the code letter for the year and we can identify the year. Provide more information and I'm sure the folks on this forum can provide the model for you.

John, 1944 is correct for the N code. The Farmalls being made in that year were the A, B, H and M series tractors. Start with providing the location of the steering shaft - is it on the right side or in the center of the tractor? Are the front wheel close together or almost as wide as the rear ones? Can you you see a size on any of the tires? These are starters and we'll go from there. Hal

John, It's looking like a H or M tractor. There are some letters in front of the engine serial number on a flat machined surface under the No. 1 spark plug (the one closest to the radiator) and above the distributor. Those would certainly help and are almost fool proof for an ID. If you can't find or read them try and get some casting part numbers off the clutch housing, the axle housings, or the transmission/differential housing, and post them back. These casting numbers usually end in a D or a D and another letter or number. I have part catalogs for both H and M tractors and that should give it too us. Hope you enjoy your RED tractor.

John, Congradulations you are the proud father of a red classic Farmall M. The number you provided is actually the rear frame or the transmission or differential housing whatever you prefer to call it. The axle housings bolt on to that part and should have part nos. like 6734 (left) and 6735 (right) followed with a D and maybe other letters. I think this ID is correct but that engine no. would be nice. Have a great evening. Hal

John:
Look for numbers & letters stamped on the engine somewhere.

Are you sure the firing order isn't 1-3-4-2? That's what all my IH machines are.
Paul
