Went and picked up my "new" 48 H this weekend up in Woodbine IA. I know right off I'm going to have some electrical questions for Bob M. He was running a 12 volt batt. in the tractor and it still has the gen. on it. Said he just charges his batt. once and while. Hope no damage done to the gen. No bulbs in the lights so they should be OK. Runs good but is very dirty. Was restored 10 years ago when I first saw it. Used for 6 years to mow a 5 acre church yard. Has sit for 4 years in an open shed by a gravel road so it has 4 years of white dust on it. Would love to share some photos but my computer seems to have lost the software that works my digital camera. Hope to get out this week and check it over and I'm sure I will have lot's of questions for you all this being my first H. Also I'm glad gas picked this weekend to go over $2.00 a gallon since I had a 800 mile trip pulling a tractor behind me.OUCH! By the way my truck loved that ethanol you all have up there in the corn belt. I have my timeing advanced to where If I have a hard pull I will get a little spark nock. Not on that stuff baby. It felt like it had more power pulling the tractor than it had on the way up running empty trailer. To Allen and Cowman. I took a right at Nebraska city and ran 75 south down through Kansas. I thought Nebraska was suposed to be flat...whats up with that. You guys live in a beautiful state. Its nice for a guy from SW MO to be able to see so far without seeing an oak tree for a change. Sorry for the long post, I'm a little stoked.
Paul

I also have a 48 H that I got last summer. Looking forward to hearing more about your tractor.

Nahh, Nebraska ain't flat, unless you run straight up the Platte Valley on I-80 which is all 99% of travelers ever see.

Paul, Congratulations! Its like announcing the arrival of a brand new baby boy. I"m sure everyone here will be more than happy to share our expertise as you go through your restoration. I restored a 52 H a couple years ago, and cannot begin to tell you the feeling of accomplishment when I finished. Whatever I can add, or contribute to your end, I"ll be glad, even if it may be nothing more than throwing a little humor your way when you become frustrated. Good luck.

Buy the owners book and a repair manual, and you won't need to ask that many questions here....

Congratulations on your "new toy" Paul....sounds like you may have gotten yourself a good one!!

It's not likely running the tractor from a 12 volt battery caused any harm to the generator, etc. However the fact it's now got a 12 volt battery suggests something is wrong with the charging system. (And we're ready to help you figure it out...)

One other concern: Unless the PO stuck a ballast resistor in the primary ahead of the coil, it's possible points may have suffered damage (burned) from overheating. So an ignition tune up kit will be $20 well spent!

Now get your digital camera software working and post us some pix!!

GOOD FOR YOU PAUL!!!!

I bought and restored a 48 H last year, sure got a lot of help from this board. Heck, I might even be able to answer a simple question or two now. Post a photo when you can.
Good Luck

Good for you Paul, Enjoy the H and congratulations on finding the prettiest corner of Nebraska. If you had found yourself west bound on 80 instead South bound on 75 you would have discovered the flats of the Platt for hundreds of miles. My nickel Dick Davis.
