Hi
How does the Carburetor float shut of the fuel? I think the previous owner tried to fix the Carburetor and lost some parts.

Carb floats work like sump pumps. the float basically rises as the gas comes into the chamber. As it rises it pushes a little pin(close to the hinge) up into the hole where the gas comes in. The pin has a rubber tip which seals off the hole when the float rises far enough( the chamber is full). the bottom of the carb can be removed by four screws which gives you acsess to the float.

A small needle valve rides on the arm of the float. As the float raises with gasoline in the bowl, the needle rides the arm up into the valve seat above it. As the needle is lifted into it's seat the fuel flow to the carborator is shut down.

If the guy was messing with the float height the needle may be in the bottom of the bowl, I've seen this happen a couple of times.
