I am looking at a 1206 that is in good shape. The guy who is selling it say"s that there is an idiot light on the dash that comes on indicating low pressure in the rear end?? I don"t kow anything about these tractors does this make any sense and do you know what it might take to fix. He stoped using the tractor after the light came on. Thanks

The engine oil or hyd oil pressure being low is very possible but I've also seen it be as simple as a bare spot in the wire grounding out on the frame someplace.

Can't remember what set-up the 1206 had since it came along after the 706 and 806, but on 706 and 806, the OIL light in the dash indicated both engine oil pressure and transmission oil pressure, so don't rule out an engine problem. 26, 56, 66, 86, and 88 series had a seperate light for transmisson pressure. If the tractor is equipped with a TA, the light should come on whenever the clutch pedal is pushed in, since the oil pressure needs to be dumped to disengage the TA. It is also normal for the light to "blink" during shifting of the TA. If the light is on at any other time, it means that you have low transmission pressure, which is usually caused by a leak in the Multiple Control Valve or the functions which it controls- steering, brakes, TA, and transmission lubrication. This could be a fairly expensive problem. You won't know anything until you get somone with the guages and a flow-rater to check it out.

Hi Jay,

Does the light just come on when you push the clutch?

Allan I am not sure. I think it stays on all of the time. I will have to ask.

Better find out if it is the MCV curcit or if it is engine oil that is running on the low side of pressure , Look down on the left side of the tractor and ahead of the clutchpedal where the MCV body is at and there is a gray wire that goes to the sending unit ( the wire is probable painted red ) pull that wire off the terminal and see if the lite goes out. if it does not then i would put a mechanical gauge on the engine before ya buy it . I would rather install a T/A then rebuild the engine half the cost and i would adjust the price .

Jay,

If that light is coming on at the "wrong" times, it is indicating a hydraulic pressure problem. It isn't "earth shattering" but something is sure wacko.

Although, it could be something as simple as that send switch too, if the tractor seems to operate okay otherwise. I'd be for running a pressure check on that front system.

Dunno,

Allan
