Local dealer that has the 1206 also has a 826 Hydro that the hydro is out on. Could probably be had pretty cheap. Tractor is mint with great cab, other than the hydro. Any one know if these are any good?

The engine is the six cylinder version of the 239 in your 544. If you are not happy with tractors that will not start without a circulating tank heater, you will not like the 826. Like Scott said, the Hydro is great for loader work, haying, planting, spraying, harvesting, and other PTO jobs where it is nice to be able to vary ground speed without changing engine speed. An 826 Hydro would be right at home on a forage harvester with a 2-row corn head. Hydro's are just about worthless for heavy tillage work, pulling them hard generates a lot of heat. Our 8 is a gear drive, probably one of the best all-around tractors out there.

The 826 has a 358 german diesel motor or a 301 gas. The diesel is a good motor but the gas would be costly to run. As for the hydro you can plan on spending in the $3000 to $4000 range to have it rebuilt at a hydro repair shop if you remove it your self. Hydros are good for lighter work like baling ect, but are not the best for heavy tillage. Too much lost power from the hydro. Overall it would be a good tractor if its a diesel and you can get it cheap enough to offset the hydro rebuild.
