Dube question - seems that I have a small problem - I am losing rad fluid (couple quarts every 3-4 hours) but it is not leaking out, it is not in the oil or the hydraulic (levels maintained) ... but my vent tube is definitely "steaming" more than usual - but no distinct odor is present?

Sine it is running fine otherwise, should I just keep filling her up and let it be (she is 40 years old now)?

Hi UpHere, the 624 should have a D206 German Diesel engine in it.

Common problems with coolant:
1)Leaking around water pump bearing.
2)Rad core full of scale, require steam cleaning.
Hot water can't ciculated down thru rad so it builds up on top and goes out overflow.
3)Leaking around "O" ring at bottom of sleeves and going into engine oil.

If you think is a pressure related leak then try only putting the rad cap on loosely so pressure dosen't build.

Good luck

Hi Guy,

Just a thought and just for what it is worth, 'cause I sure don't know anything about your tractor, but you aren't over-filling that dude are you?

I've never seen a Farmall yet that wouldn't puke out the overflow if the coolant level was too high.

You should maintain the level about an inch or so above the core.

Just guessing tho,

Allan

I do not know what engine is in it but it could be that a injector tube is leaking or a head gskt. is leaking or a cracked head..

Thanks for the ideas lads - so I gather the excess steam from the vent pipe (D206) is not an issue?

Is the dip stick or oil fill cap getting milky deposits on them? Is that steamy breather tube getting gunk on or dripping? If the antifreeze is getting in the top of the engine somehow, (cracked head, bad gasket) running the engine like that will score the sleeve/s and destroy the engine. Better make sure you know where the antifreeze is going before just topping it off and running it .

Another Guess,

Is that cap okay?
