What can you tell me about a 200?

I saw one for sale on the way in to work this AM, serial number says it's a 1954 model. It has a wide front, steering is really loose, tires shot, paint is basically a rust veneer, but the sheetmetal looks OK, and it appears to be a runner. It has some king of mid-mounted hydraulic lift on it (right above the clutch if I recall) and what I believe was called the "fast hitch" which has a hydraulically adjustable hitch height. Did these tractors have live or independent PTO, because I'm getting tired of the clutch dance I have to do when brush hogging with my John Deere B. What's the going price of these tractors in the midwest (Kansas)? Thanks!

New rear tires and rims (11.2x36) will cost about $1000.

I've seen a few around south central Missouri recently as I've been looking for a Super C with a fast hitch myself. They are just the follow on to the Super C's made in 1954, 55 and 56. About 15,000 were made. Having good sheet metal is a real plus as it would probably be difficult and expensive to find replacements. The hydraulic unit you noted is called Touch Control and is controled by two levers near the throttle control on the light bar. The one on the right side I believe runs the fast hitch up and down and the one on the left is attached to a leveling link so the attached implement can be lilted up or down on the left side. These hydraulic arms can also be attached to raise and lower mid mounted equipment, belly mowers, cultivators, grader blade, etc. There is probably also a hydraulic cylinder on the back which can be used as is to raise and lower the fast hitch I believe. It can also be removed from the tractor and placed on an implement to provide operating hydraulics on the trailed item. Since I don't have a Super C yet, I am getting this information from the manuals I have already purchased. Also, a wide front 200 is a little on the uncommon side (can't really say rare) but certainly most are narrow front tractors. The ones I've seen here in Missouri are priced about like Super C's w/fast hitches in the $1200 - $2600 dollar range. The one you described would be at the lower end like $1400 to $1600 from the ones I've seen. From what I have read and heard from other folks these are really nice handy and useable utility tractors around the farm or property. Hope this helps.

YOu answer most of your questions except you believe it appears to run, and whether it has LPTO. The 200 did not have LPTO that i know of, so you arent gaining anything there that your JD B has. appearing to be running and running are two completely different things. I"d sure want to know for sure before I spent my hard earned cash. I was at a sale a year ago and a running 200 with fast hitch sold for $1200. I thought it was on the low side, but then it all depends on what it is worth to the individual buyer. You should have a mental opinion on what it would be worth to you, not what it is worth to someone else.
