Mornin',

I was afraid this was gonna happen; I've been droolin' over that darned tractor of yours!

Anyway, you said that it was bought from the state, had a new engine at 2,700 hours and now I see that it is equipped with an air intake pre-cleaner.

The State of Iowa must have dusted that original motor, do ya think?

Allan

what was the deal with some of the early Deere turbos? Somehow the airfilter would catch fire and shell out the motor right now.

I don't know for sure. I remember them saying it was "rebuilt" at 2700ish. I don't know if it was replaced or not. I assume since it was a gaovenrnment thing they were sold a bill of goods as far as the fix goes.

What tractors would that prcleaner have been on? The fire was minor. you can see where the paint is faded on the front left. It didn't get hot enough to actually bubble the paint. I suppose it was dust or a birdnest on the manifold and spread to the aircleaner????? Anyway there is no sign of fire under the hood it was cleaned up very well Wires and all are very nice.

They were an aftermarket precleaner. The dealership I worked at, installed them for customers on brand new tractors. Some were aspirated. Some of those guys had the precleaners on all their large tractors.

I appreciate the info! Can you tell me what the brand of the aftermarket cleaner is?

Can't help ya on that one, ol' Pard. They are an aftermarket outfit, aren't they?

'Cause the stock tractors grab the air from out in front of the tractor thru the upper grille mesh.

I was real proud of the "Tubo" decal on it.
