I decided I had to run to the farm this afternoon so here they are! The cause of my flame throwing vaccume cleaner and the thighmusher 300U. I am looking forward to getting them here.

Sloroll, Huba, Huba, Huba!!! What a Darlin. All she needs is a bath, some new front shoes. and a good going over and she looks ready for business. And her little sister will work for me anywhere, anytime!
Are you going to keep or lose the cab? Glad you are getting them.
Later,
John A.

Sloroll, May I suggest since you are putting a loader on her go with a set of 20 ply airplains tires for the front. I have my 966 set since 1996. I used my factory rims and they work great for they do not squat when you have a really heavy load on.
The only drawback is in the mud you will also use your brakes to help turn.
The ones that fit a 966 are the nose wheel tires from a Boeing 727. They have a lip built on the tire , that is a brake guard, just turn it out.
Anyway, just my suggestion.

John A.

Not a bad Idea. The old girl will be used mostly on sod now anyway and i don't want to tear things up with heavy ribs. Now if I can only locate someone familliar with an aircraft mechanic to get a good set of used ones....

Sloroll, Call Gensco @ Houston Texas. Their # is 800-633-5287. You can get used, or new ( which is a new recap on a older carcas. Don't get the wheels they sell. The offset of the center part of the wheel is 1/2 in to deep. When mounted on the tractor, jacked up, the clearence is less than 1/4 inch. After you set the tractor back down the tire just rubs a touch. Then put a load in the bucket and it realy rubs hard.
Just get the tire and use your rims. The last question you have to answer is wheather to tube the tire! or Get that sealer they sell and run the tire tubeless.
A good tire shop with a machine can turn the tires onto your rims. I have been very happy with mine, hope you are too.

John A.

Are they both original? I heard the story of the 966 and jet vaccumm, laughed my head off at that. Why is the utility called a thighmusher????

The clutch on that old hog about destroyed my left leg. I would haul sunshine all day and (true) my left leg would shake so much I could hardly walk that evening. I am a big fellow too. If it would have been a right hand (foot) clutch I would have been one H3ll of a place kicker. As it is I made mom but me two different sized blue jeans and sew the larger leg on the left side. I would scoop poo untill I started running into the barnand fence then brake for an hour or so to give my leg a break. I love the tractor! Hate the clutch!

Ain't that the truth! My left knee is my arthritic one, and after just a couple hours on the 300U I've had about all I can take for a week or so. Love the tractor, though. :O)

No, it came with the tractor. It belonged to ISU and had a fire under the hood. We got a heck of a bargain on it. I really haven't run it much (or even seen it)in the last 15 to 20 years. Dad just has used the bush hog on it. The front tires are pretty bald but have never been replaced. It hasn't been used much. I need to look into a slipping pto (sigh) and the left rear rim is pretty coroded. I looked her over pretty good and it is in pretty decent condition. If you like I'll e-mail you a few more pics. the tach reads 4700hrs. I believe it was rebuilt at 2700. I am really tickled that I got her before it was sold off to another.

I noticed that your 300 has a Stan Hoist loader on it. My dad had one on our 50 H and yes I did scoop poo with that, no live hydraulics!

Yah, the shed was kinda dark. It is about to be torn down so the electricity is disconected. The loader hides most of the old girl. Back before we got her, probably around 62 someone put white paint on it to make it look like a 350U. We have owned it since 64 did all our farming with the little thing until I was about to graduate high school. We then got the 966 and an Allis 190. around 78 or 79.

Yessiree! Here's mine after clearing a spot in the blackberry/salmonberry/nettle jungle a few years back. Note the blackberry vines on the headlight bars. The growth was about 9 ft high in places. It was also a very warm day, and I was wearing a longsleeve shirt, a quilted flannel shirt, hardhat and safety goggles. Sweated up a storm. Your pic looks like a much more comfortable situation.

Sloroll, I made those seat cushions. Pretty easy, the bottom was two layers of 3 inch foam on a piece of 3/4 plywood, with some fabric store naugahyde stapled over it. The back was 3 laminations of 1/8 plywood laminated with Weldwood resin glue. When I glued them up I clamped them to a form cut from a 2 by 6 to make the curve. Again, a layer of 3 inch foam with a naugahyde cover. I think the whole works cost me about 12 bucks, and it's oh, so comfy. :o)

This old girl of mine wasn't babied either. It will require a complete gutting and refurbishing. It still runs better than it should, the clutch still is a pain in the leg and starts great. Dad converted it to 12v after I left home. saved all the generator stuf and didn't cut things up when doing it. The exhaust has always exited the top since we have had it.

Have you ever hauled poo with it? A lot of it was the travel and the repetitiveness. 5ft forward, clutch, reverse, clutch, scoop clutch. Kinda like Jed clampet stumpen at a ho down. Once the leg gets tired holding the clutch down that last inch against the foot plate required me at 225lb (highschool weight) to stand up to clutch all the way.

Using the loader for snowbank work is rather similar...drive forward, sink into snowbank, clutch in,raise bucket, drive forward, stop, back up,stop,go forward, stop at different snowbank, dump load, repeat process over and over....

The battery is in a marine battery box.I also have a master disconnect on the negative side inside the box. When I first saw a battery sitting between where my legs would go I freaked out.No way I was going to sit behind a battery that could spill acid/explode uncontained. The battery box also keeps the post from accidentally shorting against the dash.I run rubber post covers even though its inside the box.
The battery is a NASCAR Select, and cranks with authority even when below zero.I have reapplied the shift diagram and warning decals atop the box cover.

What I wouldnt give for a chance to move back into time...to the development stage of the Ute.A few helpful hints for IH toward future advances/upgrades that I had learned of by my being in present-day time....come 2004,the 300U I bought would have been a slightly better engineered machine.
Toughen up the TA,conceal the battery, and do something about the dreaded steering box issue.Would they even listen to me? Probably not,but it would be neat to try anyway....

Back to the Future? Quantum Leap?
Nawww...its not possible....

Call it more of a phobia than anything else.I had never seen anything with such disregard for operator safety/well-being than a battery placed where that one is.To think they had a cigarette lighter socket on the dash...right above a battery pumping acid vapors out when charging!I consider this 300U more of an updating rather than a "restoration".Fix what the factory didnt/couldnt do,to move it into the 20th century anyway (alternator, electronic ignition,12V neg, gauze air filter, modern fluids...etc)..if they made an EFI system I probably would go for that too...however this starts/runs excellently without such an advance.

You've cleaned that old girl up nicely,I'm a little ashamed as I think you bought that one right around the time I got mine, and she's no prettier than the day I got her (but it runs).

I think I've got a line on a loader for mine, but I'm trying to think of how to hook up the hydraulics, next time you've got your camera out would you mind taking a pic of how you've got the loader hooked to the hydraulic?

thanks
