I know this was discussed the other day but now it happened to me. Moving snow last night with an old McKee blower when the lift arms stopped moving, checked the oil in the resevoir sure enough was down. This didn't suprise me as there are a few small leaks, well it was down a lot, I filled her up with about 1/2 gallon of fluid and sure enough about 20 minutes later no more lift arms. Motor sure is full of oil though.

Called the dealer and he says most likely the pump is worn out (he says the casting wears out and lets pressure by). I ordered a seal anyway but if he's right it won't last long.

Anyone heard of a similar explanation?

If so short of buying a new pump housing (likely not available) whats a fella to do?

Thanks

I have a good pump if you need one. I would take $100 for it plus shipping, which would probably be around $20. It is off of a 300 U

If you don't see any major wear where the lip of the seal rides the pump shaft, chances are that replacing the seal will do the trick. Worth a try anyway, what have you got to lose, a $5 seal and hour or so to replace it?

If its losing fluid and its not all going on the ground, its going in the engine oil.The pump is gear driven off the front of the engine and when you lose a pump seal the engine starts taking in the hydraulics.I would say with 50 years of wear, the pump needs to be replaced.Rebuilt ones are $300+ online.

you can take the pump apart with the help of a shop manual for putting it back together again of course; and take both shafts to a machine shop that has electroplating industrial to build both shafts up to grind and polish to size; or a simple hardened wear sleave which ever one would be cheaper; I would go for the pressed in wear sleave myself, that is if the wear limits have been exceeded HOPE THIS HELPS

Thanks all, we'll have to see how it goes when I take it apart this weekend, you're sure to hear from me should things go awry.

I sure hope its just the seal, was thinking with cold weather the oil may be a little thick causing more pressure- who knows.

Thanks
