I am in the middle of rebuilding a farmall f12. I have come to the point of rebuilding the fuel pump for this machine. I got a kit from Gordon Rice, installed it and put it back on the machine. Went to start it and the link pin broke, tried it again and it broke again. Has anybody had a problem with the rebuild kits? Any suggestions...comments...or otherwise...just want to thank you all in advance....have a great day

Sounds like you got something together wrong. Can you pump it by hand before you put it back on the tractor?

Took it off and tried pumping it and it pumped but wasn't enough travel for a good pump. then put it on and the pin broke. We are on the second kit and been through many pins, just not sure what to do now...we even got a different fuel pump and they all keep snapping that pin....funny thing is that it works fine after the pin breaks....but you also have 2 pieces that could fall out and go into the system at any point in time....which scares me after all the money that is into this machine. I just don't understand....2 fuel pumps 2 kits same problem with both...almost makes me wonder if people are putting them together and the pin snaps without them knowing because it works fine....anyhow any thing I should look for? we have been trouble shooting for almost a week now and know nothing more then when we started...thanks again

If two pumps are doing the same thing, then its either one of two things,a BIG coincedence or you arent putting them together right.Which one of the two pins is it that keeps breaking, that would tell me there is a problem there?Go back and look at the diagram againb closer and Im sure youll find the problem.

Does the new diaphragm have some looseness or baggy-ness to it , or is it tight like the head of a drum? I rebuilt my own fuel pump with diaphragm material from NAPA. I made mine a little too tight- hasn't broken the pin, but actually pushes fuel back past the check valve. Anyway, you might try just making your own- the material is cheap. Is one of those pumps original on the tractor? Those pumps looked the same on many different engines, but may have had different levers for different applications. Try installing it without the diaphragm to make sure it operates freely.

Same, have used two kits successfully, no problems from Rice parts.
