Ok looks like I may keep my 460, Thats ok because I have some 3pt jobs for it to do.
Lets say next winter I get another wild hair.
Might look at a deisel swap.
Is there a combine motor that would go in there easy?
I suppose finding a 460D motor would be the easy fix.
Planning/ thinking about it stages right now so shoot me some input for ideas.
No real need to do any thing as the 460 runs good now. But if I am going to split it for a clutch/TA fix might just keep going.

Kelly, Here is my out look for my operation, one tractor was good the M, two was better the M and 450, but once all the gas was paid for three became the anwser, the M 450 and 756 (which is a diesel). This year it paid off haveing three tractors along with Dads Three his being a 970 Case, 1105 Massey and 160 Same. While makeing hay the Case stayed on the diskbine, Same on the round baler, Massey loaded bales with its loader, 756 was on the TMR mixer or the square baler, 450 on the rake and the M bucked wagons.
All was fine til the 450 blew a coil while a friend was rakeing and I was round baleing so we ran home and got the M and started rakein again.

SO for you I would think that buying another tractor would be the answer, or once the 300 is running I would sell the 460 and get a 560, or a 656 diesel. That 460 has got to be worth about $3500 with all of the spruceing up youv'e done to it.

An engine swap for you while you can probely do it would be a long tedious project and in the end it may hurt the tractors value as well as makeing it harder to work on.

Adam,

You are another guy who thinks like I do. (Kinda scary 'taint it?)

Yep, I agree. I think it is time ol' Kelly dropped into the world of the 656 Diesel.

It's kind of a rite of ritual sort of thing. :>)

Well as the work day wore on me I became less and less ambitious about this idea.
And besides I canot see the down side to having another tractor. I still have some room in the shed.

Have put a 301 combine motor in my 560d and just finished a 460 with 301 gas off a 715 nothing hard to do.These motors exchange real easy front and rear motor plates and oil filter base and a few other minors.

Unless you can get a good engine for a song, most engine swaps are done out of love, not to save money... There are so many individual bits and pieces that you have to chase down, and so much labor, it quickly becomes a major expense.

I think the frame length and width on a 460 is the same as a 560, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the same width and length as the bigger '06 and '56 series tractors. If the 460's block is the same as the 560's C263 gas engine, you can put a D282 or D310 (late 706 & 756 engine, also 715 combine). If a D310 will fit, so will a D358.

It might take a little more work, but you could probably shoehorn a D361 (806) or D407 (856) in there.

The 666/686 is basically the same tractor with a different engine. That opens the door for the D312 and D360 blocks from the 66 and 86 series.

The major parts you'll need are the front and rear covers for the engine.
