Just curious what the approx value of a 1206 turbo would be. About 6500 hours,Duals( All tires bout 70%), Cab. All tin is straight. Seems to start, run good. I like the 706's and 806's and spent many hours on them in the 80's. In addition to approx value, are these good tractors.?

The last 1206 I saw sell went for $3800, it was running and moving but was going to need some work (smoking, TA out, leaks everywhere, etc). We had one in the mid 70s, used it for everything we used a 1466 with. They are fairly tough tractors but everyone turned up the power to match the "big" two wheel drives. From the factory these things had a drawbar rating just UNDER a 100hp. The engines could handle the extra power but the transmissions couldn't. We ended up trading ours instead of repairing the rear end.

My Dad worked for a farmer when a 1206 was brand new and when they dynoed it, It had a 140 hp stock. the pump was never touched. most 1206s had a min of a 125 hp or more

Dave the 1206 was as good a tractor as there was made ai the time. The first 1206 I saw we set at 165 HP the day it went out. It would pull 6 16 plow where a plow should have never been pulled. 10" deep in frost in bad hells. Sure some one well say nuts but been there did that.

Can't tell you what the value is, but I have always heard that the 1206 was one rugged tractor. 6500 hrs onone that age isn't bad at all. Just geting started compared to some I have seen.

I agree,

At 6500 hours, probably throw in a set of inserts, change all the fluids and filters and go.

Those old 1206s are really in demand of late.

Sounds good. I beleive they are asking $8000. If purchased it will be streamcleaned to find leaks and repair them, Then I will be painting it. Going off and painting it Black and IH "cream?" color scheme. Is there any way to check if the turbo is in good shape

Remove the compressor air inlet hose and look at the compressor wheel, none of the fins should be bent or show they have been contacting the housing. Spin the wheel, it should spin easily with no drag. Grab the end of the compressor wheel and push in and out, If it noticeably moves then you probably will have oil leakage also, and look for it. Push up, down, and sideways on the compressor wheel. It will move slightly, but should not contact the housing. If you pass all this inspection, you are good to go, although you could take off the turbine inlet and inspect the turbine wheel. This could be damaged if something like a bolt ran thru it. If it passes on the compressor side, I wouldn't bother.

Boy Dave,

I just don't know about your plans to change the color scheme. Aren't you afraid that will void the warranty? :>)

Ever since seeing that 1066 in Black, I wanted a project tractor to do that paint scheme. But it has to be IH and it has to be some what rare. No green on this farm yet

I painted my 1256 blk.& wht. about 10 years ago, I used gloss black and cream white IMO the cream white was to dull so I repainted it bright white and looks a lot better. If I knew how to post pic.s over here I would put one up for you to see.

BTW the 1066 you saw was it owened by the SIKES bro.s down by Oldebolt IA?
