Has anyone dare try to install a 400/450 gearshift lever on an M?? Did IH relocate the steering wheel on the 400/450 series to allow the longer "stick"?

Thanks for the info guys. It was tempting to think about because of the increased length of the lever, and the ease to reach it. I guess I"ll leave that one be...

Randy, the distance from swivel pin to shift fork end of shifter on a 400 is longer than M also.Unless lower end is shortened its to long to use with M top cover and if it was shortened to make it work the top of shifter would have a greater arc.Think Farmer bob covered reasons for change, there was just less room fo shifter movement.

I think it (Longer shift lever) was due to the position of the battery box/seat support and the newly designed dash panel of the 400/450. Ergonomics and engineering probably played a role in the position of the knob on the shifter lever as well. Though I've never tried to stick a 400 shifter on my M, I would think you'd kill your knuckles on the light bar.
