Bought a 460 Farmall the TA is shot!!!! Was told that IH built a F460 with no TA and I could remove the TA and put a shaft in its place and it would make it a straight 5 speed but still have live power Is this true? dose any one know how to do this change and have a list of parts needed? Was told that parts from a300,350,340, and 460 are same? Whats the shaft and bearing cage and clutch asm Will the it hook to my rear end or is my trans shaft different? Thanks

Steel Wheel Ranch 785-548-7437 -has rebuilt TA's at a reasonable price--Your tractor will be worth more if you ever decide to sell it, if it has a working TA. You will probably find a use for it too. It gives you 10 usable speeds instead of 5. Yes, you can put in a shaft -- I don't know the details.

Spud you could take the TA out and have live PTO back in the 60's it would have cost as much to take the TA out and put in the straight through shaft. What you can find at junk yard to do that now don't know.

Spud seems to me the biggest obstacle to TA repair OR replacement OR elimination is the requirement to double split the tractor. If I was going to all the work I would go ahead and repair instead of removing the TA. after all the TA will probably last longer than you do. My nickel Dick Davis
