In 2001 I chumped off and bought a brand new Carb for my old A. It is a Zenith 14007 (IH #375560R91). Now I need a kit and am darned if I can find one. IH wants $15 just for a needle and seat and I should be able to buy a basic kit for near that. Does anybody out there know which kit will work for this baby? I see you have a rebuilt 14007 in the parts house but no kit. I have searched and hunted to no avail.

Do you guys think unleaded gas is hard on the neoprene needle valves, I have had it my barrel for the last 2 years and seem to have a lot of needle valve trouble, Sometime put a leaking neoprene tip valve under a good magnifing glass and look at it, it looks like it was hard and starting to flake apart, might just be me

I've got one of those new zeniths on my Super C. It's six or eight years old now and the best money I've ever spent on it. I'd clean it out and install a small inline gas filter. It does'nt take much of a speck of rust to make it leak gas. Jim

Try NAPA Auto Parts. Their carb kit number is 2-1565 and the price is $29.00. Hal

Try a quick fix first, remove the fuel line at the inlet to the carb. and spray some carb cleaner in there. If your carb has a drain plug in the bottom, remove it, and spray the carb cleaner until it runs out the drain hole, and then put everything back together again and give it a try. I'm guessing that the needle valve got a speck of rust or maybe even some gummy gas in it and it simply stuck. You might want to also completely drain the gas tank, clean the sediment bowl, and put fresh gas back in.

David - Before you fault the float needle, check to see the float still floats.

I ran into similar problems recently first with my Minnie Mo U, then with my old Craftsman snowblower. Discovered on both of them the carb floats had developed pinhole leaks that let gasoline get inside ‘em. Thus even though the float heights were correctly set, the gas inside caused the floats to float too low in the bowl and the carburetors to leak profusely. Drying out the floats and patching the pinholes with JB Weld cured the problem on both.

Take the float off and shake it. If you hear any liquid sloshing inside, you found the problem.

Here is a link to a company that claims to supply Zenith parts.

I have never done any business with them, so I can't give any opinion of them, one way or the other. I ran across them searching for something else.

Don't be too surprised if you find that the $15 needle and seat aren't all that bad after all.

Hey Dave,

Don't go off on me now, but why in the world are you putting a kit in a carb that was brand spankin' new in '01?

There just can't be that much wrong with it??

Allan

No reason except it leaks like a sieve. It has been sitting around for 6 months and I guess the needle went bad. Believe me I have tried everything else. I like the old needles that were all steel but I guess they are a ting of the past.

I would say 'good riddance' to the all steel needles. The carb on my C leaked, even after installing a kit. A new needle and seat from my local, IH dealer fixed the problem. Both of the needles were plastic tipped.
