I've recently been watching the antique tractor shows on RFD TV. If you have cable then I'm sure you get the channel. Has some great shows and I recently emailed them letting me express my appreciation. I just wanted to share and if you don't know about the channel go to this website http://www.rfd-tv.com/start3.html. The following is the email.

Wanted to let someone know how much my friends and I enjoy watching the shows with the classic tractors. Only wish more tractor shows were on the air. Thanks.

Jim

We are working hard to expand all of the tractor programs on RFD-TV. Thanks for your feedback. Patrick Gottsch

I really liked the last Sunday night show, Calander tractors on the 1990 calander. The 1020 for April of 1990 was mine, finished it in late 1988. We were on the first year of the calander and I have a new one for every year since. Hope Nebraska Cowman was watching my old cows took a lot of interest in the filming that day

Here is the response back I got -

We are working hard to expand all of the programming on RFD-TV. It just depends on new subscribers to the Magazine, as this funds these efforts. Thanks for your feedback. Patrick Gottsch

My Two Cents:

If we cut out about 95% of the "horsey" shows, it would help.

No one except the city yuppies likes that stuff and it just does not depict the real country life in any way, shape or form.

My view,

Allan

Allan, I'll add my 2 cents to you comments, that's 4 cents in favor of more tractors and get rid of the horses.

I'll vote for more tractor shows too!

And although I did catch a pretty neat horse-oriented show on there yesterday about using horse teams to pull logs out of snowy forests, most of those "horse training" programs on there I'll just skip over. We raised and broke our own horses to use here on the ranch until about '87, and always viewed horses as "tools" rather than an "entertainment hobby"(although to be completely fair I guess the same thing always has held true about tractors too). Our horses never got the kind of training shown on those programs but they'd do ranch work alongside any horse in the country. The "training" our young horses got involved basically dad telling me to get on 'em. If they moved on thier own, fine(even if it was straight up in the air!), and if they just froze in their tracks like most young horses do dad would dally the halter rope to his saddlehorn and away we'd go. Once they went on their own, after a few months of every-day cattle work on them they'd eventually quit bucking me off and start to enjoy their work and then the older guys would start riding them. Sorry to go off-topic there!

Ron, I caught that same show about the horses being used in a logging operation. I'll have to admit, it was quite interesting. I also enjoy watching the shows where they are using more modern farm machinery, powered from an engine on a cart, and the whole works is being pulled across the field with a team of horses.

Let the campfire cook flag the antique tractor pulls, but leave big Joe the polka boy alone, I like to watch the big legged girls dance!

I just called my local Mediacom Station and they don't carry it here in the Northern Alabama area so I put in a request to add it to the new channel wish list. I looked at the weekly schedule and some show's on repairing old tractors would be a good thing for all. Think you guys could get them to add that to their programs? Just my 3 cents.
