That usually happens when I hit the "submit" button twice. Usually because it sometimes takes awhile to go through the srver.

Can not remember having a problem with doubles. A problem that has developed is that when I am ready to post a followup after hitting "Submit Follow Up" and going to that next page to view the post, when I hit "Back" the message gets deleated. Maybe better the message than the messenger. Please don't put this to a vote.

You don't get double posts unless you hit the post message thing (the last step, whatever it says, more than once or hold it down too long). Your post will be there if you either back out, after the last step, or exit windows. Sometimes it does not appear immediately, but every time I get one it's because I didn't think it went through, it always has. Emptying your "temporary interent files" will help -- Tools, Internet options, above. You can also get a double post, if for some reason, your post comes up again, while you are doing something else -- don't remember the details of this one, but it occasionally happens to me.

I hadn't done anything different and this morning is the first time it doubled up on me. I bet those John Deere boys have been tampering with this site. Ya never know what kinda sneaky things they do!

Here's something that may help. When you want to reply to a message, open a new window for the reply message. (right-click on reply and select "open in new window") Then go through the normal posting procedures. If the window hangs when confirmation of your message posting is suppose to return, go the first window and click on refresh. You'll probably see the message was posted and there was a delay or breakdown in the return confirmation message to you. If you see your reply message posted, then just close the window you used to reply.

What this site needs is the ability to give the author a DELETE function.

Yeah, I would use that daily, would be easier than removing my foot out of my mouth when I see a mistake I have made, or in this case, I suppose I should say keyboard out of my mouth. The other type of forum, has an "edit post" thing, that is very useful if you want to take something back.

To Cowman and others: I posted and notice came up "this message has been added to forum" I then went to back button brought it forward a second time and clicked on post message. My screen than displayed following message. " ERROR This appears to be a duplicate message, it has not been added. Click here to return to the forum. You may need to "refresh" or "reload" with your brouser to see most recent messages." From experience, this message also comes up, even when I don't get the message advising my message has been posted.

To be absolutely honest with you, and looking at the wording of the message, I give the credit to Kim for this. I can see where I'm going to be popular with Kim on the deluge she will receive as a result of this. I just somehow cant give the credit to my repairman or server. If someone sees where I'm wrong on this please post, so as not to burdon Kim with something unnessesary.

That message only comes up if the first one has gone through -- if the little symbol (whatever you call it) in the upper right corner, under the X in IE, is still turning, I don't think that message comes up, at least it hasn't on mine. It has saved me from double posting, when I've dosed off while posting though.

CNKS: That notice will come up on my screen everytime a post has been made regardlees of what has happened or what conditions are present. It has never failed in 18 months. If you go into archives you will not find a single double post by me in that time. Prior to that my computer did as many others are doing.

In my earlier post I suggested Kim had to be responcible for this however, my good better half could have changed some settings. She is always working on making this machine function better, really never tells me the half of what she does.

I normally don't get double posts either, but the basic problem still exists, at least on my computer, I just know how to avoid it, but not how to correct it. The notice merely reminds me that I've already posted, but the basic problem is still there -- you might ask your better half to share what she did to your computer. Deleting the temporary internet files seems to help for a while, but the problem comes back. And, it got worse when I changed ISP's, which means the posts take a different route -- so I don't know.

CNKS: You may have hit the nail, I know she deletes the temperary internet files weekly. She is also quite into other house cleaning items on computer. I am a great one to be sending and receiving photos. She is constantly after me to get rid of those as they tie up a lot of mail box space. She shows real patience with me as she thought I would never have a hobby. The whole family were concerned about that one.

Hi Hugh,

Mine used to do that message at one time. Now it just dups. I thought it was because I started using a different firewall.

Darned if I know what causes it. This seems to be the only site I've noticed it on, tho.

Allan

Cowman: And also to Paul, Sammy, Allan and JJK, my computer always used to do as yours do. I had quite a few discussions with Kim, my computer repair man and my server on this very problem. Not quite sure who straightened the whole thing out as I not up to speed on this technology. However in the past 18 months I've never had a double. If by chance I happen to hit the post key a second time, a notice will come up reminding me I've already posted. I will on this post try to double post, just to see what happens as the problem seems quite bad this morning. Here goes.

Most double post are from the author being impatient and hitting the "Post Message" button more than once.

Hi Sam,

When that thing "hangs" and doesn't 'throw back' the conformation, clicking anything other than the "back" key will produce a double.

Even shutting down the browser will cause it to double.

Allan, on mine shutting down the browser is how I prevent double posts, never have gotten one that way, Always single -- I think it may depend on the individual computer. But, the problem is with this site -- Like you, I see virtually no double posts on other forums, but as a benefit of the doubt, I use this one much more. I have seen an occasional one on the RPM forum. Likely because the person got impatient. That forum is much slower that this one with dialup.

Gotta be something with the site. I just had to wait about 5 minutes to post a response and it doubled up. Hope it don't do it to this message.
