1701 Loader on 340 Utility

I have a 340 Utility, and recently a good deal on a 1701 loader came up. Now that I've got it home, I'm concerned that I didn't think through well enough how I can attach the loader. The 1701's frame flanges will bolt up to the tractor well enough, in fact the bolt spacing is the same. However, I'm concerned about where to tie in the tubular struts (2 on each side). The only place that is possible is to the front weight casting below the radiator. Since, after closer examination I see that weight is bolted to the front of the block, now I'm wondering if that is an acceptable place to tie in the stress of the loader?

This is a photo of the 340, currently apart to install a new front axle. What would be the best way to attach the 1701?

Does anyone have a 1701 on a 340? Am I worrying unnecessarily? I'd appreciate your advice.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Seeing Allen's pic of the 1701, I remember that there was one just like it installed on a small utility tractor down the road from where I grew up.

The struts are going to have to go to the front bolster, no doubt. But, you'll probably end up having to do some modifications to the struts, unless the loader came off a 340.

If you need to use spacers to bolt the rear of the loader on, you might consider using that as an opportunity to add "frame rails" to the tractor to tie the front bolster to the bell housing in the back.

NIG,

I've never been around anything except Farmhand loaders, but don't those sturts usually allow for stretching or shortening via a pin of some sort?

I was wondering about that frame rail addition too; shouldn't be too hard to do.

Dunno,

Allan

Paul,

I have absolutely no idea, 'cause I've never been around those little tractors.

This fella has one strapped to a 504, but it has the frame rails. 'Spose those loader struts will stretch up to your front end? Bet there is a way to do it.

Thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I've got the exact loader as in the picture you posted. Those two struts have to tie in someplace. The only choice I believe I have is to make plates that tie in to the holes in that front bolster my photo shows (assuming I can keep the struts out of the way of my front axle). My concern is whether that tie in point OK to use from a strength point of view, considering it is bolted into the engine block? That 560 in the photo has a frame below the engine that the loader is connected to, which is much stronger than what I've got.

Perhaps I've already answered my own question in that the front of the tractor is supported by jack stands under that same bolster. But it would be nice to know if anyone has a 1701 on a 340
