Well Heck,

This day sure didn't start so darned good. :>(

So, I'm a gonna go out and clean the filthy shop and find something red to work on; always makes me feel better for some darned reason to be a tinkerin' out there.

Makes me feel low that I seemed to have developed an enemy here though, sure didn't intend to.

Say, how 'bout those 'Mets? :>)

Sounds like a couple of Americans who just had a spat. Now, I can't think of a single friend I've ever had that I didn;t have at least one arguement with - and maybe a fistfight with one or two - but we're still friends. I guess once we let the adrenaline back out of our egos, we're ok again...

Good luck to both of you. I'm just a reader, I rarely post. If everybody gave up....what would I read?

Well I figure there are a lot of things to get pi--ed off about but this is not one of them. I'm an EX - nationally ranked shooter who started working on tractors because I can't see past the end of my nose anymore. Now that's something to be bothered by. Done, seen and been pretty much everything and everywhere in my 52 years. The one thing I've learned is to tolerate the views of others. No drug company exec will get rich selling me blood pressure or heartburn pills. Keep all the comments coming. I know I've learned a lot.

Dear Allen, I sure hope you dont even think about leaving here! My goodness, You know, I dont know you, or Hugh, but I can tell that both of you have a helpful, and freindly attitude to educate, entertain, and just to give us all something to read! Me, personally, I enjoy reading all of the posts put on this board. I look forward to it everyday, and you both have yet to disapoint me in what I read in any of the posts left here. We all have to eat crow one time or another, and no way am I saying have another slice of humble pie here!!! Sure! There is always differences of opinions! Somewhere, there is someone who knows, someone who dont know, and some, that have forgotten more than I would ever learn in my lifetime. When I came on to YT in the tractor pulling forum, bout a year or so ago, I had ideas that were not anywhere close to what is so called written in stone in antiuqe pulling. In my adventures here at YT, Ive been called everything but a white man from what i belived in, stood for, just because someone made it personal. I did my best to keep it real, but trust me, I did wander off the objective to retaliate. LOL, It was kinda fun to blast back, but soon realized, it had become pretty bad! It took me a long time to fianlly stop worriyng about what others thought of me, personally. I just wanted to be there, giving my 2 cents worth for what it was worth. There is 2 subjects, I hold dear to my heart, The top of the list is antique tractor pulling, and the other is Antiuqe tractor pulling, with a Farmall! Ive made alot of good freinds on here. A wide world of opinions, that all share one common passion, TRACTORS!! Allen,,, Hugh,,,, I hope you can sort out your differnces, for I would be lost, without reading Allen's learning experience from what his projects are teaching all of us, sharing a bit of his persoanl experiences is very refreshing. Hugh, well, what can I say, He knows his IH, he's proved it with his personal experience and dedication to the Farmall, IH, and the other hundred names the comapny had. History, is a learning experience, turning wrenches is a learning experience, living life is all the expereince I can handle at the moment. LOL! But this,, what you all have brought to this board, is Something, that no one can take away, or destroy. Its in your blood gents, IH RED, when you all are here, its like a family reunion, and an education, with a very entertaining twist to it. If ya disagree on life sometimes, find a new tractor to talk about.(long as it aint green!) Just my .02 cents worth. Hope you guys work this out. Respectfully, ChadS

Don't feel so bad. Just start an OT discussion thread. Methinks everybody loves a session of good-natured bantering. :->

With regards to your shop: Filthy is a matter of opinon! I have pieces of my big green and yellow beasty (JD AW), not to mention tools, scattered to all four corners of our shop. Makes me wonder if I can put it back together without leftovers.

Lyndon

(I just hope the folks from the John Deere discussion board don't catch me here!) ;-)

Hey, Allan. I could use some help cleaning my bench and it needs it. How do you ever find anything with a workbench that looks like yours?

You could also help me to understand why a wide front end is better than a trike. I could use some help on getting my H in shape as well.

Hugh did vent a little steam your direction, but you are both good guys.

I remember when Hugh started on this board. He sounded a little like N.I.G. Also sounded like a know-it-all. This was a little like the old Hugh.

Pretty soon he eased up and we found out he just about does know it all! He does not open up unless he is pretty firm on a problem.

Keep on enjoying the communications and recognize if we all liked the same things it would be pretty boring.

But I still don't understand why you are nervous about 010 or even 040 cranks. Surface hardness is the only question in my mind, and for a show tractor you'll never know it.

I had to go down and read the prior post to find out who your "enemy" was. Imagine my shock to find out you were talking about Hugh. I have to tell you, Allen, that many have been the times in the past few months when I have wondered who you were and why you were posting about your horses etc on this and other forums to which it does not relate. Just the other day I read something that I thought would have been better of on the talers board. This post today is another example. It just doesn't have much to do with the topic. Sounds more like you were bored and wanted to show off your shop. Now if a few of you want to class me with Hugh as "an old grouch" then so be it. I can tell you that I have known Hugh through the forums for a couple of years now and he doesn't deserve that type of criticism. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me and many others and usually has a good story to embellish his advice with. I would also like to comment that I enjoy a little OT conversation on the forums and have strongly opposed those who would like it all to stop. I don't think you made an enemy in Hugh and you certainly don't have an enemy in me. I just think that the persistant OT chatter about personal matters in topical forums is starting to annoy a few people. Now that I have painted THAT bullseye on my back, guys....fire at will.

Okay Dave, Gotcha

I've read and I understand. I have been chewing on this all day and am thinking the exact same thing.

Since I am not an old tractor "collector" like the rest of you boys, I really have no business here and am definitely in the wrong neighborhood.

Me thinks I need to find an "Old Farmer" hangout somewhere (with emphasis on the old). :>)

Thanks,

Allan

Hey buddy, If you go somewhere let us know. I look down through the posts and always read the ones you comment on first. Everybody has their own thoughts, so I don't know where any one person comes off jumping on you just for having yours. By the way, just to keep this on topic, the wheel stud bolt on a 1942 Farmall M is three and 1/8 inches long, and 5/8 inches across, just to keep the OT police off us. Later, Harley

Did I hear violins playing? Going to pick up your marbles and leave just because a few people told you off? If there is one thing I am certain of it is that very few people want to see a good natured, active IH collector abandon the IH forum.
I don't know the answer Al, but that isn't it. I think Hugh had a point about the quantity and character of your posts because it crossed my mind too. Don't think you are breaking any rules though so have at it if that is the only way you can be happy. Nobody is required to read it. I am pretty sure this is how the talers forum got started though, to clean off all the personal/OT messaging. Correct me if I am wrong. On to round 3..... .

What do you mean, not an old tractor guy? If your tractors have IH on them, then they are old. I don't care if it is an 886 or a 966 or an H. The two newer tractors are not as old as the H, but they are still classics. If I am ever licky enough to get another 856, you can bet that I will be on here talking about it, and I just may need some advice from someone who is familiar with the newer tractors.

Hey Allan, I have been checking in periodicaly today and finally decided I have to let u know that I appreciate you being here and look forward to any kind of post you want to put up. I check here even on a day like today (at work in the office). Gives me a few minutes to feel what it might be like to be at home having fun! lol As for Hugh, he does know his info also but I beilve starting all this on here was not called for. Sorry just my two cents.
Hope you stick around, I am only in my twenties and need to keep learning from all of you guys on here. Have a good day, the sun is bright in eastern Nebraska! :)

Allen,

I don't post here much because I consider myself an amateur in these topics, and prefer to read in order to gain knowledge. I for one enjoy reading your posts. If everything was all business all the time, it would be quite boring. After all, I think most of us come here for fun, not for work.

I also acknowledge Hugh's expertise as well, as he has taken the time to help me personally in the past.

What I'm saying is I think there is plenty of room for both of you. I know how you feel, but don't leave just because someone gets their shorts in a bunch.

Now to open yet another can of worms - if you all would allow the forums to be updated to a modern version, no one's important questions would ever be relegated to the 2,3,4,or 5 pages, as they would bounce right to the top when someone replies...

Thanks for listening,
Sam

Let me know where you end up. I just made the commitment to drag the old 966 over here to the hanger and start beating on it. I wanna learn by your mistakes; I figure I'll save enough $ to buy a bunch of IT manuals :? ) What is the propper torque for a neck bolt anyway?

You know Allan life is short and you can't let little things get to you. You do want you want and if that is a problem for some then it is there problem and not yours. We come here to vent, talk and sometimes we even help a little, that's the way it should be. No problem with me.

We have to make some room in the barn for a new member of the family. A nice little W-4 is comin in the spring, Mom wasn't to happy when dad told her though!
