The guy who is putting the blade on are A got a ps pump to run the hydraulics. But the pump warms up fast then it won't lift anymore, cause it makes the oil to thin. I have heard that Chevy ps pumps work the best. Is this right? Now i don't know anything about ps pumps, Is there different sizes you can get? Also, does it matter if you run it of the pto or belt pulley? It is running on the belt pulley.

If the pump "warms up fast" something is wrong! Sounds like it's plumbed so the pump is dead-headed when it's not lifting. Pump flow is then bypassed thru the relief valve which rapidly heats up and thins the oil. (It also unnecessarily loads the engine...)

To use a PS pump for a blade lift it should have an "open center" lift control valve. If it does not, that's the problem!

The pump is not the problem. in reply to farmallkid From Ont,, 02-22-2005 06:02:35
You could address this in several ways.

What kind of oil are you using? Hydraulic fluid, like Hy-Tran or John Deere 303 or their generic equivalents would thin out less when warm. If you are using detergent motor oil, you have a system full of foam. Foam won't lift or cool anything.

How fast are you running this pump? It normally ran at 800-2500 rpm in a vehicle. Some were good up to 5-6000 rpm. If this one is run from the A's belt pulley it is probably around 2500 rpm already.

Could you put an oil cooler in line? They were available for vehicle automatic transmissions.

How big is your reservoir? A bigger reservoir provides more oil.
