I have been having trouble recenly with the 1yr old carbeurator on my 1950 cub. It seems to me that the float must not be turning off the gas because if you leave the valve open on tank, and go back in an hour or so, the pipe that runs up to the air cleaner will be full of gas! we have taken apart the carb but can't find any place where the floa is rubbing or sticking, and even bent the float up to shut off sooner, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Maybe some dirt under the valve the float closes. another possibility is leaking past the gasket where the float valve screws in. Also there is a drain in the air throat just behind where the breather hose connects that should be letting it drain. make sure that's open. won't stop leaking, but will stop building up in pipe.
