Guys youve all been help before , so im gonna shoot another question or two at you . Ive came across a pretty good deal on a super A Im not sure of the year but its in fairly good shape with a couple of issues , The transmission whines in all gears , and the left hand final drive is making some sort of clicking noise ,but the engine and hydraulics are very sound . My question is ... I have a good transmission , and a final drive that has good insides , that are from a straight 42 farmall a .Will these parts interchange ?I mean if i had to could i take the whole transmission from the a and put it on the super a ? and parts from the final drive as well ? If any of you have any knowledge in this area , id appreciate some insight . Thanks again !! Gary in N.C.

Just wondering where in NC you all were located. I am near Greensboro. I hava a 140 that has whined in reverse and 4th since 1978 when I bought it. It is still going. Either it or my mom's super A was making a racket that I thought was in the final drive. One end of the brake was rubbing and making the noise.

I have spent a few years in your area. I went to work at Dover yarn Mill on Buffalo Creek in 1973 right out of college. After 5 years, I had a chance to buy the family farm and moved back here. I was in Shelby in Jan. A friend is coming up to visit me on Wed. He is from Casar. My email is open. Maybe we can get together sometime.

Try a drain and fill on the transmission, add some Lucas oil additive as per instructions. This will sometimes help. My 100 has whined in 1st for over 20 yrs with no problems. Your noise on the final drive may just be loose wheel bolts. (pops or clicks as the wheel turns) Good luck

I think the Super A is essentially an A with hydraulics added, which means that the block is different. The instrument panel was also different, but I think the transmission and final drives were the same on both tractors. You should get an A and a Super A parts catalog and then you can be sure by matching up part numbers.
