I am going to paint my tractor rims and side panels on my 330 utility. I never painted anything before I need to know what kind of paint that I need, and what kind of gun I need. Any tips or pointers would be helpfull to. Jayson

Jayson, Get the paint you need fron your Case-IH dealer, it is a very good quality paint that doesn't cost a bundle. Also, don't be afraid to use the aerosol cans, you will get excellent results and when you are done you just throw the empty can in the trash. No paint gun to clean up, you don't need an expensive air compressor, and if you don't like the results, let it dry, sand it down, and try again. I have a good paint gun, and a very good air compressor, and I still use the rattle cans most of the time.

Jayson-If you are just learning I wouldn't spend big bucks on equipment until you get some experience. Start small and simple and work your way up.

This is a list of the PPG products you can use -- other manufacturers have similar products. MP 170 epoxy primer, MP 181 surfacer, MAE acrylic enamel. IH 2150 red code is PPG 71310, I believe the white is IH 901/PPG 8665, I have not used the white. The surfacer is sandable and is used over the epoxy to give a smooth finish, you didn't mention the cast, only the epoxy is needed on it. You can scroll down thru the link for those numbers, which will link you to the spec sheet for each paint. If you have never painted before, you need an HVLP gun. Lots of info on the Paint and Bodywork forum on this site. I did not recommend hardener, because you need a $500 suppplied air system for that, if you want to spend that much money, I can provide a link for that also. Hardener makes the paint more durable, it flows out better and has more gloss.

The wheels and the side panels have new paint on them, but it is red not white. Do I need to sand and prime these areas or just paint over them?

The white side panels on your tractor were originally decals, I believe they are still available from Case-IH. They are fine if you can get them on smooth. As to the wheels, if it is new paint, I would remove it, particularly if it hasn't cured, you can get lifting if the paints are not compatible. Any finish, new or old needs to be sanded for adhesion. You can put epoxy primer over the old finish, after sanding, it acts as a sealer, but no promises if it is a different brand of paint.
