Last week I bid on a 400 diesel on E-bay. I had asked the seller about the engine code, I asked, was it a z code or an a code. I told him where to find the engine code and said the tractor would be more appealing to me if it was a Z code motor. It just so happens it was a Z motor. The seller has the option to let every bidder see your question. I've got no problem with that, and thats what he did. I was willing to pay a fair price for the tractor but as I was bidding I felt I was being messed with. I lost the auction to chaptrac124 by $15.00 and that's ok, here's what ticks me off. The next day I get an E-mail saying chaptrac124 has backed out of the deal and I can have the tractor for the price of my last bid. The two guys were a team. Chaptrac124 has 100% positive feedback and I can assure you his buddy (the seller) Pure gold is not going to leave him negetive feedback, It would be bad for their business. Be careful out there. Bugsy.

Hello bugsy I am chaptrac. Rest assured there is no scam going on this one. The way e-bay works is you have to be the high bidder to purchase and I put my winning bid for the 400D on many, many hours before the auction ended. The e-mail you got has to be a classic scam as I phoned the seller 10 minutes after sale ended. Why, because I wanted the tractor I bought and two check my feedback rating that is how I do business. As of yesterday at 3 pm the 400D is at my farm awaiting restoration. Will you find that 400D relisted for sale? NO. I do not know how soon but keep your eyes open somewhere in central IL, might be a plow day, might be a mall exhibit, might be a tractor drive, might be at half century of progress and you could see your 400D. You owe an apology to pure gold as he is a very decent person just trying to sell items to add to family living. If you knew his personal situation you would be in tears but I will keep that private out of respect for him. As for me I am not offended by your remarks. I am and plan to continue to be a well respected member of my local farm community and the classic tractor hobby and ebay. Have a good day.

Bugsy I dont know about this deal but I have bought several items from Pure Gold for My H that I have restored,and he has allways beenupfront and honest with me. But this could be raw deal

Are you sure it was a ligit email from ebay,I get those scammers every time I bid on something from ebay.It probably was a phoney second chance offer.If it says to contact the seller directly
it's a scam.

I wasn't going to wade into this muddy pond, but what the heck. If you were willing to pay your last bid then you should contact the seller and buy your tractor. If...and I mean IF...the man was doing as you say, then he is morally bankrupt and isn't that just a shame. I buy rusty iron all the time and I rarely meet the guy who isn't scamming somehow. What about guys who buy things for $100 and turn around and sell them for $500 the next day? No matter how you look at it, they have to be scamming either buyer or seller and probably the IRS too. My point is, what are you upset about? You think you could have got it for less? NO WAY! He would not have sold it for less. Truth be known, the guy probably wasn't up to any monkey business at all. Go buy your tractor.

It's my words you appreciate, my thoughts I keep to myself. The forums are a great place. Lots of opinions from a lot of perspectives. One of the few places on the internet you could actually let your kids access to boot.

Terry, During the bidding, I had a feeling something wasn't quite right. When I was offered the tractor the next day I was pretty sure. I'm not going to buy a thing from anyone I'm not comfortable with. Maybe I'm stubborn, maybe I'm a sore loser or maybe I've got a legitamate beef. Thanks for the comments.

Important Ebay bidders wait unitl very last minute,that way if there is no or few bidders sellers buddies can't keep jacking up bids again'st you.

Don't know about the one you refer to but I can tell many times when this happens. The seller will have a tractor for sale and bids will be beyond a reasonable fair price. You can almost know that the reserve will not be met because he is having the price jscked up by a shell. I have seen two tractors in very similar condition with one bid up twice what the other one has reached and they would both be in neighboring states.

if he offered it to you at the high price you bid then you must have figured it was worth that to you or you would not have bid it.

if you want it for that price go get it. if you don't you are under no obligation.

i really don't see the problem.

I think you just got out-bid....and the high bidder backed out because of all of the missing parts (power steering, battery, Ect.)..... Email him & offer him what you are comfortable with

I ran into a similar deal with a local tractor that was for sale on ebay. The guy had two tractors up, and each was being heavily bid on by a different person with 0 feedback. In the end, I was outbid by one of the 0s at the last second.

Ebay has a rule against "shill" bidding, and a special link to report shills. I used it and reported the guy.

Turned out the whole thing was legit. The seller contacted me shortly after the auction, told me he was suspicious of the buyer, and was hoping I'd win. Also said if the buyer turned out to be a scumbag, I could have the tractor for my high bid. The buyer came and paid cash...

Sometimes if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a Farmall...

I did all of the searches thru ebay on this, in the last 30 days, chap_trac has only bid on 1 other auction of pure_gold, it was a John Deere parts tractor, and he was not even the back up bidder on it, bid it at an odd ball price, like he was really trying to win the Deere. If you look at chap_trac`s bidding history for the last 30 days, I think you may find out that he could possibly be an actually buyer, as he has also bought a part off of Nebraska Cowman, who posts on here. As an ebay seller myself, as earlschieb, I posted this just to check what you are saying, as I know of another ebay seller up in Northern Ohio, who had a problem with pure_gold. I have a copy of the bid history of chap_trac, if anyone wants to see it, email me, it is open.

You are under no obligation to buy the tractor. Just leave it alone and see if it gets relisted. If it does, you can start all over again, only this time, don't bid even as high as you did the first time. This might get the seller to wake up and realize that we all know what kind of a scam he is trying to pull, and if he really wants to sell it, he needs to be fair.

I have a co-worker, that told me a story of a simular deal that he had on E-bay. I beleive that there is some recourse that you can take by getting in contact with E-bay officals. It always ticks me off when the Acutioneer knows a jockie and they run the price up on a item that I'm bidding on. But that's just part of the game.

Brian, I've been buying and selling on E-bay for quite awhile.I've learned a lot and most of the time I can tell when someone's messing with me. I have tried to contact E-bay personnel, I have never been abale to contact a real person. I don't think E-bay cares as long as they get their commission. Bugsy.

Finding a real person at Ebay will take a court order. You are dealing with a machine not real people.
