I think your tractor is negative ground since it's a 12 volt system.

If it has a factory 12V system, it is positive ground. To be certain, just follow the leads from your battery to see. The Farmall 350 originally had a braded strap 14" or so long that connected the positive terminal of the battery to a bolt in the bottom of the battery case. I don"t know the 350U, so I don"t know how different it would be.

So-if pos terminal of battery is connect to body it is postive grd. And vica-versa.
is this true?

Right. If the positive terminal is connected to the chassis, it is positive ground.

The answer to that depends on why you want to change. Electronic ignition provides a better spark and needs less maintenance, but points have been doing the job for about 100 years. Some electronic ignitions are more sensitive to low battery voltage than points. Neither system will work in a worn out distributor.

To get back to your orginal question - Does the tractor start and run now ? Does it keep the battery charged ? If so, you should be able to look at which terminal is connected to the chassis and see if it is a positive or negative ground system.

Unless you have owned the tractor since it was new, someone may have re-engineered the electrical system in the past 50 years. It may not be the same as when it came out of the factory. But if it is working now, it really does not matter to the tractor whether it is + or -, as long as you order the right ignition for it.
