Crankshaft problems

I just got the news from my machine shop - if I'm to reuse the crank for my '44 H, I will need to find 0.040 oversized rod and crank bearings. Anyone know of a source for these?

I know that H cranks are common, but here in Pensacola FL Farmalls are scarce as are tractor salvage yards. So while finding one may not be hard the cost goes up a bumch when you add on shipping. I guess I need to stop carping and see if you all have any suggestions.

Thanks again for your help in advance.

Slappy, in the Farmall classifieds ads there is a crank for an H for sale in MO. He wants $125 shipped if you decide to replace yours. I am north of Huntsville, AL and if I can help in any wy we have several junk yards within 50 miles. Be glad to check on something for you if in need. Address is uncovered.

Give Federal Mogul a call at 1-800-325-8886. They can tell you where they're available in your area. Hal

Slappy, something Kevin said rings a bell. At the auto shop I used to work at we had two major suppliers and Ideal Supply which was the NAPA franchise had a machine shop that could build up a crank, turn it and send it back like new, it wasn't unreasonable...as far as a used crank, Steve at Ontario Used Tractor Parts would have good ones and he would ship...Londesborough Ontario to Florida....Hmmm...don't know what the cost would be, he'd use UPS likely...anyway , good luck...Mike in Exeter Ontario

About 4 years ago, I had NAPA send my F-12 crank off to be what they called"flame-built". I got back a crank that was standard and I think it was less than $175 and there was no shipping "cause it went on their truck. Just a thought, Kevin

Ouch,

Wow, that's gettin' pretty thin for a crank; I get nervous at .010".

Have you thought about Mike at www.steelwheelranch.com ? He can shoot one to ya, I'll bet. An H crank isn't that heavy, so the freight shouldn't be that high, I wouldn't think.

Allan

Nervous at 0.010????? That is the first grind..... ..... . IH originally only offered STD, 0.002, 0.030, & 0.032. 0.040 bearings were offered by some aftermarket suppliers, and 0.060 (semifinished) were offered also. The 0.060s would need to be sized to the crank by the machine shop. The bearings you are looking for are out there, you just need to find them....

I thought 0.040 were available for M's and H's. Does the machine shop not have a source?

Still plenty of crank.
