Farmall A moving machine question

I now have a rear-mounted sickle mower for a Farmall A. I need several rock guards to get it going. I have several guards in the bucket of spare parts that came with the mower, but the ledger plates are worn smooth on all of them. I saw ledger plates advertized in a parts catalog, so I know that the guards can be rehabilitated. My question is: HOW DO I GET THE LEDGER PLATES ON? I figure I can drill the old rivets to get the worn out plates off, but, I can't figure out how to rivet the new plates on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The rivet is hard to see because that is the part of the guard that rides on the ground causing the rivet to wear smooth. Take a smaller drift punch and hit in the area where the rivet goes thru. Hope that helps.

just insert your new rivet into ledger plate with rivet head in the recessed ledger hole, through the guard with new rivet,,have a good place to rest rivet head on and pean over the ""tail""? end of rivet. guard should be off of machine to do this .

Thanks for the reply! All the guards are already off the mower, in a bucket - that is not a problem. I have an anvil to peen the rivets flat on - that's not a problem, either. However, the guards don't appear to have holes drilled all the way through to put rivets in - am I missing something? Maybe I need to look closer at the guards after I clean them up with a wire brush. Again, thanks.
