What year did the Farmall M come out with disk brakes? I'm looking at one that is apparently a 1948 according to the serial number and it has disk brakes.

Would $1000 be too high if it runs well and looks OK?

My 1950 M has the Lamberts, and the serial Number is 243336.

I think you should do what Rusty suggests and buy it if it looks decent. Hal

I have a 52 with IH disc brakes. First M with disc brakes ser # 294226. There was only 3992 made. So i think you have lamberts.

You can tell the Lambert brakes by looking at the disk chambers. The Lamberts have only three bolts that hold the disk chambers to the chassis. The Super series have 5 I believe.

The disc brakes are most likely the aftermarket Lamberts. If the tractor runs well, looks reasonably good, and you can buy it for $1,000, what are you waiting for? If you don't want it, just let the rest of us know where it is, please.

IH factory disk brakes were only installed on the very last 1952 Ms (the last 2000 or so made). Before that, there were aftermarket disk brake kits available to convert the drums to disks.

So, there are three possibilities:
1. You have an M with "Lambert" brakes.
2. You have an early 1952 M with the wrong tag.
3. Someone went to a whole bunch of trouble to change out a whole bunch of internal transmission parts to convert that tractor to the later factory disk brakes.

My money's on #1
