Does anyone know where to buy a new "ratchet" type throttle lever assembly for an H?

Somebody put one of those aftermarket square-cut ringers on mine and I've hated it since the day I bought the tractor.

Just 'taint an H without that old ratchet style!

Allan

Drove an H for about 10 years in the 50's. Wore out the toothed type -- FACTORY replacement was square cut. Used tractor for cultivation where I actually counted the teeth to get the correct ground speed. It worked fine, and does not slip like the toothed ones. I consider both "correct". But, as others said they are available. Steel Wheel Ranch has them also.

I think that the problem with the old style ratchet is that the lever is too weak. The spring bends it in the middle so the bushing drags on the housing. To work right, the only parts that should touch the cap are the tooth and the heel of the lever on the oposite side. It has worked for me, so far.

Allan, If you get a used one, I just repaired mine last weekend and it works great. Here's my "hit and miss, try it 'till it works method": I brazed up the little latch then filed it back close to it's original size. Then I straightened the handle where it had bent after 56 years of being jerked on. Then the important part:I took the valve spring from an F12 and cut a couple of rounds off. Tried to assemble it, cut another round, tried it, etc. When I could finally force it back together(got the wife to help compress the spring while I started the bolts) it holds better than any one I've seen, and it's not too hard to pull! Sorry for the long post, but too much info is better than not enough in my book. Kevin

O.E.M. has them. and I think maybe stieners? I know I've seen them listed somewhere. Come to think of it, might be right here on Y.T.

But why buy a new one. Get a salvage one and wrap a bungee cord around it like everyone else.

It works for me.

That would work, but you can"t find "original" bungy cords anymore

Dave, The throttle bungies were made from the same tire tube that the magneto covers came from
