I'm curious,what engine did the C169 come from? Or was it new for 1955? And as far as its successor the C175,was this the end of that engine family (1955-1958),or did the engine grow in size once again and continued to live on? It seems to be a great engine that runs nearly forever.

Paul: Yes indeed 1958 was the end of the line for that engine. As CNKS has told you it was increased in power 4 times from the H / W4 through to the 350. Diesels were fast taking over in the industry with their increased efficiency. My dad bought a new Farmall 300 in 1955, and on the 9' haybine it used 3 Cdn gallons of gas per hour. Our first diesel was a 560 and on the same haybine 1 Cdn gallon of diesel per hour, and indeed had the power to cut 25% more hay per hour. The diesels would go 2 to 3 times the hours on an engine rebuild. Those old gassers from the 50s were soon history on commercial farms. That is precisely why there are so many of them around in quite decent shape. They don't have a lot of hours on them

I can't answer past the 350, but the first I knew of the engine was in the Farmall H/W4, a relative could have been in an older tractor, someone else will have to answer that. The C152 was in the H, C164 in the Super H, C169 in the 300, and C175 in the 350. The engine in the M thru 450 is of the same design, but the two series share no common parts.

I believe it ended with the C-175(350). At least as far as tractors are concerned,could have been used in something else.
