What grade bolts?

The front bolster is off my tractor and I"m hoping to pull the engine this weekend. So far so good .... but I do have a question.

When I removed the bolts holding the rails to the front casting three of them were bent. I plan to replace them all. Does anyone know what grade bolt to use here (I think they are 1/2" X about three ")? I"m guessing grade 5.

Thanks

One thing you need to consider is if those bolts had been grade 8 your bolster might have broken instead of the bolts.

Bolts are kind of a safety shear pin in many ways and some are even designed to break instead of breaking something more expensive to replace.

Hi Slappy, Grade 5 cap screws usually have 3 marks or slashes on the bolt head. Grade 8 have
6. I would use Grade 8 when replacing them. These bolts may have been somewhat loose causing them to bend. Hal
