Is there an easy way to remove the valve cover on an H so you can set the tappets when the engine is warm?

I took off the brace rod above it and the generator. Hear someone say take off the steering rod. What is best?

Just Gaged mine a week ago. Took off brace rod and Generator. Don't see a reason to take off steering rod, uhmm?? Here let me tell ya how. Standing on the side with the distributer, lift left side up off bolt.Get that left side past the Temperature gage wire. Now lift right side up while lifting left up also. Get right side past the Generater brace bolt and she"s out. Reason i know this so well, I"m havin a bit of trouble with mine and i"ve taken it off so many times. Glad to help. JOE

Yup, remove the brace rod and generator belt and drop the generator out of the way.

Just did mine with removing the brace rod and the alternator. Valve cover came off easily after that. Did mine cold at .018" though.

I have always had to remove the steering shaft. Just not enough room any other way.
