Howdy,

I've seen these round, high speed wire brushes for angle grinders hangin' on the wall in stores for years, so I finally broke down and picked one up today.

Say now, these little fellers really get after the program! :>)

Those high speed grinders and wire brushes are great, safety glasses are a good idea but dont forget a good resoirator that old paint is lead base.

Mornin Allan, Thats the setup that I use. Ive got the Dewalt right angle grinder and you can switch the handle from side to side. One other tip, if you can find them, try and find the twisted or braided brush they hold up much better than what youve got on there now! Same size, just braided!

I use Zip-Strip- Industrial strenth paint remover. brush it on and watch it fall off. use the wire brush very little. use a damp cloth to wipe it down.

Where do you get "Zip Strip?" I've seen them use similar stuff to strip cars on TV.

The local hardware store has it. I believe it is a BEST do it yourself hardware or something. has an orange bag with BEST on it. do not get it on your hands or watch it peal off too.

I use those new "flap wheels" the 5 inch on a 5 inch Makita. Much faster than wire. But the wire is good for high concabe/convex areas. But why not go to the 71/2 inch body shop grinder with a 4 inch brush?

Yeah, wait until you lay on your back underneath the tractor, and try to remove the paint/rust -- I usually vibrate for a couple of days afterward.

YOU ARE RIGHT. THEY DO WORK. JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE BRUSHES THAT YOU BUY WILL TAKE THE RPM,S.I USE AIR GRINDERS THAT TURN UP AROUND 28,000 RPM,S AND YOU DON,T HAVE A HIGH SPEED WHEEL, THE WIRES WILL COME OUT. THE BEST I HAVE FOUND ARE AT GRAINGERS. THEY ARE A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT THEY LAST A LONG TIME.

Allan, I would probably fire up the sand blaster for a job like that but when it's 10 below that little tool would be handy. How much does it cost and how long will it last. Bugsy.
