Increasing hydraulic capacity

I have a Farmhand loader on my Farmall M. I would like to increase the fluid capacity. The single acting cyls. do not extend all the way out. I am afraid to over fill the pump. Can I use the drain plug hole to install line to a reserve tank? Does the tank have to be below the fluid level in the pump? Loader raises and lowers fine. Any advice is appreciated. Thank You

The lift all holds 6 qts. of oil. It will hold 8. I just added 2 extra qts of oil and everything worked fine

I've seen setups where they use the other side of the hydraulic cylinder as a reservoir. It's plumbed up like a two-way, except that the "down" side of the hydraulic cylinders just dump into the lift-all reservoir when the loader goes up. When the loader goes down, they suck the excess fluid back out of the reservoir.

Running the lift-all dry won't do it any good.

Can I do that with single acting cyls?

Depends on the cylinders.

Have you tried fully compressing the actuators then adding extra fluid to the reservoir? Then check to see how far the actuators will extend. That way the fluid won't overflow out the vent. If I needed more fluid, I'd think about putting another reservior next to the gas tank with a line running down to the lift-all's fill pipe and the vent on top of the new reservoir. The fill pipe's diameter is larger than the drain plug so the fluid should flow faster.
