I finally pulled the head off of my smoking S A today and found the reason for the blow by and oil consumption. The retaining clip for the piston pin is missing and there is a very deep groove in the side of the cylinder sleeve. Does anyone have a design and/or pictures for an efficient home made sleeve puller? I would like to build one to have for restorations on our B and BN. Thanks, Greg

I made a cheap one & used it last week to pull the sleeves in my Super A. I got a 15" X 5/8" threaded bolt from the hardware store, (threaded 100% of it's leagth) a couple of nuts to fit, and some flat washers. I had some 1/4" X 3" plate, and cut them to 4" & 6" in length, I drilled a hole for the 5/8" bolt in the center of each. I put the bolt down the sleeve, put the shorter plate up against the bottom of the sleeve, & put on a washer & nut. Then I laid a stack of washers about an inch tall on either side of the sleeve to be pulled, dropped the other plate down over the bolt, & across the top of my washers, and ran the other washer & nut down to the plate. With just a few turns, it pulled the sleeves out with little effort. I tried beating them out first, but they wouldn't budge.

I tried to beat the sleeves out of my A, without much success, the corrosion between the liner flange and the counterbores in the block was tough. Went to a puller before I did any damage. Check out OTC Tools 2002 catalogue online www.otctools.com/frames-catalog2.php3 page 126 and 127 shows their pullers for ideas. I have their No.1205 because I do so many different sizes of engines and it works great. Hope this helps

The one on ebay is not of good quality. I dont know what they used for a 3" plate but it is not very thick and I dont know what those holes are for on the edge of the plate. Looks like someone found a 3" plate drilled a hole in it and called it a sleeve puller. buyer be ware

I just drove mine out with a block of wood and a 36oz hammer. No problems.

Hi Greg, I have a sketch for a puller that's for a Super C. You may have change the piston diameter if your pistons are 3.0". I think I made the sketch so you can remove 3.125" on one end and 3.0" on the other end. If you want a copy you can email me. Hal
You can use piece of 2X2 oak to drive on the outer edge of the sleeve. They're not pressed in, but be careful not to damage the block.

You do not need one for wet sleeves. With the bloch lying on its side ( incidentally an overhaul with the engine in a tractor is just a patch job) Remove tyhe piston and eith the rings still in place put it back into the cylinder backwards. Then take a heavy bar, I use a plunger pin from a baler, place the bar against the head of the picton and drive out with a 3 pound hammer. Always worked for me and I do not even reacall using a puler for wet sleeved when working for Allis Chalmers.

I built a real simple one that I used on my B. If you want dimensions email me and I'll get back to you. Cost me some scrounging steel and a nut and a short bit of time on a lathe.

From the looks of that the one I have made by the Ottawana Tool Co compelte with 10 assorted dies and stands over 2 foot tall was a steal at $40. Stood at that auction all afternoon for that puller. Tom

Thanks to everyone for the ideas, suggestions, and drawings. I'll post the results as soon as I have the opportunity to pull the sleeve, probably in a couple of weeks.
