Like the others have said it can be done but i have found that is ya just take some time and fix what you have and keep the clutch and dump valve set properly they will darn near fall into gear..

I have changed 3 of my IH 06's over to 56or66 shift.Last one I bought gave 350 at a salvage yard. You dont need to change the steering colume all you need is the right suport for the colume. You will have to use a 756 colume support their not as tall as 856-1066.

ejr: Thanks, I remember now. Quite right, you just need to change the support. Good note on the 756 being shorter.

Easy job, you will need cover top etc. I don't think I changed the steering column on mine though, I think I did some cutting and grinding on my old one and got it to work. I think the one I bought is still sitting there. The 06 does have some trouble with HLNR being all in line, with not much for range of movement. Our 806 is awfully high houred and we use it on the loader almost all the time. We keep things adjusted properly and still had too much trouble with it. Seemed once two twice a year we were fixing it. There is a lot of things that wear that give just a little bit of play and with such a small range of movement not very much play is tolerated. If you are using it to push snow and put 100 hours a year on or something, probably be better to rebuild your existing top. If you use it as a chore tractor and have had the top off several times, switch it over. Mine cost me $150 out of a salvage yard. There is no reason you should have to pay more than $300 to do it. If the 06 didn't have a problem with that shift, they wouldn't have switched to a different one with the 56 series.

You would need a steering coloum, shift linkage, transmission cover, and shift forks from a 56 series tractor. Not a hard job but the parts are going to run in the $700 to $1000 range maybe more. It would be easier and cheaper to adjust or rebuild your current shifter as they work good when adjusted correctly.

Clutch and throw out bearing is not the problem.
