Leaky air cleaner on the H

I can't get a good seal around the oil cup on Mr. Haney's air cleaner. It will keep the bell housing under it rust free, but it doesn't look good. It never seems to have lost enough oil to affect its operation, but a little oil makes a lot of mess.
Anybody have an idea for a product that will help seal it up while still allowing for regular removal?
I've tried teflon tape, but it's hard to get it spread around evenly in the tight space and I worry about a shred getting to the carb
Thanks, Wm

They will all seep a little, but not as you describe, you must have something bent out of shape. I have never seen that problem, and have 6 of that style air cleaner at the moment. As Alan said there is a fill line, which is roughly even with the top of the inner chamber.

Hi William,

You aren't overfilling it are you? They don't take very much oil and the level shouldn't be up around that seam anyway.

Maybe the can itself is leaking?

Dunno,

Allan

I don't think it's over-full. There's a line to fill to. It's not not impossible that there's a pinhole leak. I'm going to degrease it, wipe it dry, spread a shop towel under it, see if it drips other than sloshing down the road.
Proper troubleshooting, eh?
Wm

I have seen pinholes, they can be brazed, but I just use JB weld on mine-but as stated I have not noticed leakage around the top.
