Took my governor apart after spending 2 days reading all the posts here about hunting, surging, etc. Say, I got brave! Found the problem - case full of rusty oil, both small springs broken, governor thrust bearing demolished (BB's in the case!)most other parts rusty. Trucked up to my friendly Case/IH dealer in Renfrew and ordered all the parts I thought I needed. Question I have now while waiting for new parts - how do I get old seals and needle bearings (the ones for the rockshaft) and bushings out of case?

I saw posts by Sam in NS, LW Hiway, ffolkes, and Scotty regarding repairing governors so maybe one of you guys have done this before and can give me some advice.

I can take governor case to machine shop and see if they can press out old stuff and put in new parts when I get them if I have to.

I have a Service Manual for the tractor and it is helpful in describing operation and has nice pictures but does not tell how to replace parts or should I just inherently know how?

Thanks
Robbie

Just disassembled the one for the A, don't know if Super A is exactly the same. Used a punch in the center of the little expansion plug to loosen and remove it. Drove the needle bearing behind it into the case. Then popped the seal out and drove the needle bearing in the middle out toward the bushing on the seal end and drove the bushing out with the bearing between it and the driver. Question, my dealer says the outer bushing is back-ordered indefinatly, did you order one? what was the response.

Thanks for the info. Haven't been back to dealer yet to see what he has gotten in, should find out tomorrow. That is not good news about the indefinite backorder!

I was thinking I may have to make a bushing as the one I took out is way loose. I don't know if they make oilite bronze bar stock to start with. Be good to see what your dealer comes up with.
