This will be the last time I ask. Can you please give me the PPG numbers for primer and correct color for Farmall M? Just the numbers and I have decided to use this brand. Thanks.

Charles:

The Paint Codes for the Farmalls including the older pre-war, war-time and post-war mixtures are all contained in the Paint Chart under Paint, Decals and Other Finish ?'s on the Cub Manual Server at the link below.

The link here doesn't work, so just cut and paste it into your browser. The PPG codes are there as well as other cross-referenced manufacturers.

This is still a work in progress, so if anyone has a paint code that I do not have, I certainly would appreciate it.

The data has been gleaned from various sources including the IH Paint Committee Decisions.

Hope this helps some..

I don't remember what month it was, but the paint codes changed sometime in 1949, before that it was IH 50/PPG 70019/DuPont 7410. If that's what you want stop reading, as it gets more complicated. There were a couple of numbers after 1949, but I believe the only ones you can get mixed are the IH 2150 equivalent PPG 71310/DuPont 96766. As previously mentioned, Sherwin Williams, Martin Senour should also be able to mix those colors. One warning, if you have PPG 71310 mixed, my local supplier seems to get it too orange, I don't know if it's my eyes, the mixers fault, PPG's fault, or if it's ok. It's just too orange to suit me. A DuPont rep who posts on the paint forum on this site told me that the dupont version 96766 has no orange in it -- if it's pre 1949, it's not your problem.

Didn't notice your primer question -- as Rod said on the Paint Forum you want epoxy primer, only familar with PPG Omni, the number is MP 170, follow with MP 181 (single stage) or MP 182 (2 part) -- 2 part means it uses hardener, sandable surfacer. Surfacer is only needed on the sheet metal, is not necessary on the cast. Topcoat with MAE Acrylic enamel with or without hardener, or MTK acrylic urethane, must have hardener. You need a supplied air system if you use hardener. DuPont and other major suppliers have similar products.
