I have an IH 240U gas tractor I my oil pressure runs in between 10 to 20 psi. I was wondering if anybody knows what they should run on ave. I just put on a new oil gauge and it runs them same amount of pressure. It can be running around 1500 rpms and still only carry around 15 psi. I am hoping its nothing internal but thats about all I can think of that is left. Thanks Darin S.

I agree with Jim on the oil pump cover. I had a 504U with the same problem . Also the oil pump driveshaft was extremly wore-out. After rebuilding the pump and replacing the bearings it has 60psi wide open and 35-40psi idling.

Your 240 has a warped cover on the oil pump. The oil pump cover is same as the one on a C or A Farmalls.

PUT 2 QUARTS OF (LUCAS ENGINE OIL STABILIZER) IN UNTIL YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO REBUILD. KEEPS IT FROM WEARING ANY FURTHER AND THE PRESSURE WILL GO UP.

I was told by a machine shop that 10 lbs. for every 1000-rpm's was adequate. So in your case 15 should be enough to get by. I would rather see 50 lbs. This is the same reason my H is on the engine stand now. Time for new bearings.... that’s where a lot of pressure is lost.

I think the book calls for around 40 to 50 psi hot. Might be time for new bearings.

If you don't work the tractor very hard the 15# will probably be ok. Low oil pressure usually indicates a worn out engine. I don't know off hand what the pressure should be, but I am sure that 15# is considerably low.
