I was looking at The letter series farmall book, and it says that W-6's were made in 53. our's is a 53. How come they made plain ones and supers in 53 and not just super's? was it so the farmer could have a bit more pony's in the same tractor? They never made M's in 53 just SM's.

But, they did make 12000+ Super M's in 1952. IH's tractors, along with any upgrades or new models were not separated by year. Probably whenever they were ready to change production over to the next model, they did, I doubt if they looked at the calendar. It is possible that they occasionally paid some attention to their fiscal year which ran Nov-Oct, or Oct-Sept, don't know which. Guy Fay will have to answer that one. I don't believe IH produced, say, a W6 and a Super W6 on the same or different production line for any length of time, there could have been some overlap, I suppose, while the transition was taking place.
