This is in reference to the question you responded to last week.
O.K., When I hold the Magneto wire close to the screw, and I mean close (all most touching) it gives me a very faint white spark.

I agree start with points and condenser first. And also cleaning all connections with a little sand paper. Then if still not much better go to the coil . Let me know if you need more help on anything. JON

O.K. this is going to make me sound like a real idiot, but where would the points be located. There is the main cable wire that comes out of the magneto and goes to the distributer cap. Inside the distributer cap there is just a black disc with a metal strip on it that spins around and hits the 4 spark plug cable. What am I missing?

Thats the Rotor there is a plate that the dist cap Hooks to that is held on with 3 screws . Take the 3 screws out remove the plate on the front of the mag and the points are under that plate. As far as the condenser goes its under the coil cap. You will have to take the mag off and there is a small plate that is held on with 2 screws on the side you will have to take that off to get the condenser out and take the little nut thats actually a bolt out of the other side it screws on to the condenser and hold it tight with the two wires on it. There is also a little hold down bolt that goes down from the top that needs to be removed to get the condenser out. JON

I checked the points last night and they seem to be in good shape. How can I tell if my problem with not enough spark is due to the magneto or the condenser? Can I remove the magneto/distributer unit from the engine with draining any fluids?

Oh Yes You will not loose a thing when taking it off. If you do mark where the mag is with something sharp make a note of rotor postion and take it off. Dont turn the motor and if you have to turn the mag you can turn it back wards to get it back where it was but you should not have to turn that either and change out the condenser and put it back on in reverse order. So how do you tell if it is the condenser or the magneto?

Do you mean how do you tell if its the condenser or COIL???. You wont untill you replace the condenser. And then try it again. P. S. If you want to send it I will rebuild it for you. JON

How are the points? Could be you just need to dress and set them or, at worst replace them. I doubt if the problem is the coil if you have any spark at all.

I'm not MagMan, but you should be getting a bright sharp blue spark up to about 1/2 inch long.

Either the condenser or coil are most likely the cause for the poor spark.
